So After my rebuild,I went to crank over for oil pressure and noticed my timing had jumped 2 or 3 teeth. After going through and finding that my valves were NOT bent (thank God), I cant seem to find why my belt is shredding only on the engine side. Would putting the crank trigger plate on wrong cause it to rub? I messed up on the timing belt tensioner pulley by not using the tool, i just bolted it on and put the belt on. thats why it skipped timing, would the rubbing just be because that was wrong in the first place.

Also would the jumped timing cause it to not start?

Jumped timing can cause it not to start. Take a look at how the belt is riding, is it centered on the cam gears? Also check to make sure you don't have an oil pan bolt sticking out too far and hitting the timing belt. Just get the belt on and follow its path and make sure it's not touching anything.

Not sure about the crank plate. But if it one that curves and you put it on backwards then yes, it could be touching the belt.

But either the tensioner pulley or the idler pulley should have a ridge on the back of it to keep the belt from running against the engine. If you have the pulley backward or something it could cause that.

The plate is extremely close to the belts in general,Im not sure but the sensor is down there too right? It was on my spyder. If you do have the crank sensor there, double check to make sure that its not cracked. clean the plate. Could the pulleys be backwards?as in the lip inside by the block and not outside?Id double check the plate and all the pulleys. Theres maybe 1/8 inch or a little more of clearance, the plate should be clean. Also you could take out your plugs and turn it over by hand to see if the plates catching on anything,( IF its timed correctly it will turn over easily) But you should already know that since you rebuilt it. Just double check those things. Good luck!

Do you have BSEK installed? IF so, check your Oil pump sprocket. Make sure it is tight. It can come loose and cause this (saw it happen to my son's '90. This caused two spun bearings.

Yes I did the bse kit. I will check that to i have alot of things to check. Is it also posible that it could be rubbing against the cover on the backside? I will also check all the pullys as stated. So the lip of the pully is on the outside? Thankyou everyone for the help. I will let you all know what i find this weekend and resolve the thread if wanted.

Since the cover is plastic, you would cut through it before it would cut through the belt.
