My timing belt cover broke when we were reinstalling a new water pump. that's why it is not on, today I may take all of the plastic crap off the engine too! Last time I ran it the plastic came loose, I ran it 12 times in 1 day at a drag strip.

Noticed my A/C belt shredding so I replaced it... about a month after, the A/C belt is shredded again and now the alternator belt is also shredded. I Recently installed coil overs, but I do not think that the motor mount could be the cause... here's some pics...

:( anyone have any ideas?

I cannot see anything that is rubbing against the belts, and I don't have a jack to look under the car so that I can see the bottom of the motor.

thanks

First off...it looks like your A/C belt is on upside down. The ribs are supposed to be hugging the pulley.

Are the belts overtightened or too loose? Do they squeal? If they aren't tight enough and the pulley spins faster than the belt, it will start to heat the belt up and shread it.

Get a new set of belts (~$25-30) and put them on with the right tension and check them after a quick drive. Feel the ribbed side of them to see if they are hot and sticky, or if they feel normal. If something is rubbing on it, you should see/feel marks on the top/bottom of the belt before they start to seperate.

ok.. ya, the A/C one's backwards, dunno how it got like that... and the other one HAS to be on wrong because where it's ripping at... it's hard to explain.... i gotta check my haynes manual... ty for the quick response!

is this pulley on backwards??? should the black lip be towards to motor??? as you can see in the picture...

... where the belt is shredded is the end/lip of the pulley, and it does not line up correctly, unless the belt is supposed to be bent a little to fit on the crank pulley.

Its hard to tell from the pic...

The power steering pulley is supposed to cup around the water pump itself, and the one that goes to the alternator is supposed to cup around the power steering pulley. If you were looking at it, they should line up in a perfectly straight line. I put my pulleys on backwards before and it didn't look straight. Flipped it around and it lined up perfect.

sweet, i'll check the water pump pulley out, a couple of my friends were saying it's on backwards and me and a buddy are supposed to take it apart today, ill post the results when I hopefully get it all back together.

The crank pulley is messed up ... BUT... I'm thinking it may just be because of the wear and tear on it, and it does have 138k miles on it. I'm going to call around tomorrow at the junk yards and try to get a used one.

Like the outter ring would move out and in, very slightly though, but I didn't see any cracking or nothing, I'm just hoping it just went bad. The car still runs strong, but you can hear that pulley.

Hopefully tomorrow I can go and pick a newer/used one up and get started on it.

anyone think my car's crank walking?
