Weird Noise on Belt Side of Engine

I need some help. recently my 99 GSX is making a weird noise on the belt side of engine. I tried looking for it but could not find out what was making the noise. In the morning when i first start my engine to warm it up it is real noticeable so i then drive it to work and the noise goes away. it seems like when it warms up the noise will lessen to a low squealing sound. it sound like a knock. has anyone had this problem like this. I only have 48,000 miles on my GSX. any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
is that still the original timing belt? dont push your luck, its supposed to be changed every 90tkm (50t miles)

its probably your crank pulley giving up.. remember,your waterpump is belt driven,dont make the belts get thrown on the autobahn..

my crank pulley lasted 42000 KM (25000 miles) then it made a knocking sound(grinding against the timing belt cover) one evening, i decided i was gonna check it the next day.. boom,on the way to work it threw all the belts... 300 meters from my works parking lot LOL

if you cant check it yourself, take it to a shop immediatley (you can go to a mitsu.. a 4g63 is a 4g63 no matter what anyone tells you)

edit: my buddies car jumped timing at 54000 , i am rebuilding his cylinder head.. (waiting on valves to get here)

I have had several problems with ticking. Check out what is stated above as that is really really serious. Other times it can just be a bolt up in somewhere rubbing on a pulley. I can't remember which one I had rubbing, but I would check up behind your pulleys just in case.

Another problem are lifters. A lifter tick can come and go. It will almost always be there when you start up and often fades as the engine warms up and oil is making is way around easily. This is another really serious issue. You can deal with lifter tick but MAKE CERTIAN that you let your engine warm up before you give it any kind of power. The cams and valves can move too fast for the lifter if it is having trouble moving and your roller rocker will fall right off. Not too bad of a problem until it finds its way between your can and the side of you head. Thats when the cam shaft seizes up and you can kiss just about everything in your motor goodbye.

Can you tell that this is what happened to me? I took my exhaust manifold off and valve pieces just started falling out. It was an excellent day.
 
It could be the timing belt tensioner pulley and idler pulley.When they go bad they whine and cause any slack in the belt to make slapping noise.After about 5 or 10 minutes they warm up and become quieter.Your car has low miles but is getting old.So maybe just change the timing belt and related items to be safe.
 
Okay I pulled off my left front tire and removed the fender well plastic to get a better look at the crank pulley i noticed that the rubber on the pulley is mssing some bits and that the noise is most likely coming from (at least i think so) now i searched the web for a harmonic balancer (crank pulley) i came across two, one looks like rubber and the other is a light weight pulley (OBX) (Unorthordox)but is all metal. which is the right one to go with and while i am at it i might as well change the water pump, tensioners, and timing belts. i am also going to change the cam gears for a set of Skunk2 Adjustable Cam Gears. might as well knock that all out at the same time to save me trouble in the future. I have a Light weight Flywheel installed on my 99 GSX. If I install a light weight crank pulley would it affect my car. The manufacture who makes the light weight crank pulley clames up to 15HP gain on stock engines. Is this True? seems kind of too easy.

i had an obx blingy blingy underdrive pulley,i didnt notice a thing, then some local dsmer saw it,and i sold it to him for 40 euros (paid 25$ off ebay LOL)

buy the harmonic balancer(oem) theres tons of threads here on the benefits of oem vs aftertmarket lightwieght..

I went ahead and did it. I went and paid 150 euros for a crank pulley on the german economy thats about 170-175 dollars. I could have ordered it online but I did not want to wait 2-4 weeks to recieve it. Well the old crank pulley is shot. the problem is corrected. thanks for all your help. anyone know of any good tuning shop in germany thats not too far from Kaiserslautern?

My car made a very similar noise the other day. I havent started it for about 2 months because its put away for the winter. When I started it up it sounded like a slight slapping/chattering at a really fast rate. I couldnt find where it was coming from and it would come and go and once the car warmed up it disappeared. :confused:
