weird engine noise

what does a clanking noise mean under the hood
It dosent do it at idle but when you rev it up around 2 or 3 it makes a clankging noise
Can anyone help me

Im not sure but I kinda know what you mean! My buddies 99 gst spyder does the same thing. Sounds like very loud valve tick but it's to slow to be valves ticking. Turn out to be his turbo. That's what the mech. said. But I'm not sure the mech. knows what he's talking about!

may be a rod bearing.. how many miles? have you taken the valve cover off and ran it to see if can get a better listen to the noise? HOPEFULLY its in the valvetrain, and not the bottom end.. when i tossed the rod in mine, it sounded like a socket got left in there.. haha

yeah it sounds like its coming from the head its like a really loud cliking but more deep
like clanging repeatdily

it have 147xxx miles

it sounds like if a bolt got in the head and could i still drive it ?
and how can i fix it
and could it be that it needs more oil

It might be lifter tick. I had it on mine. it goes away but it comes back when my engine is cold.

You don't know how to check the oil?!? Seriously? You need to get someone to have your car towed to a shop and looked at.

Dont think anybody mensioned it yet but it may be dieseling. If your running lots of boost id check that out.
