Timing Set W/ Evo III 16g

Ok I know its a noob question but when setting the timing should I advance it or retard it an.y from stock when I'm running an EVO III 16g@16lbs of boost. Mod list is updated.

I agree 5 degrees is where you want to be. If you have a logger you can see how bad your timing pull is and may beable to run 7. I have no fuel control and run 10psi at about 10 degrees of timing. Sounds like a lot but I dont get any knock. At 15psi t 5 degrees I had a lot of knock, so I turned down the boost and started advancing.

Yeah I mean I can do it the old fashion way with a timing gun and all. None of this logger junk.

Yea just make sure you ground the timing adjustment plug and set it to 5 degrees. If you had a logger you may beable to run more, but with your boost level I would not advance it at all. Your SAFC is tuned to 16psi right?

He's 2g, you don't set the base timing, ecu does it for you. Doesn't look like your running DSMLink so you can't play with the timing, unless you have a set of adjustable timing gears.

Damn I am a jack ass. Looked at his profile and never noticed. OOPS. You cannot adjust your base timing.

Well then I hate my ECU cause I think its seriously off, well a bit. It was making that squealing noise when I get over 4k but I don't think the belts are that bad cause they were just replaced like 10,000 miles ago, sugestions?

What does your ecu have to do with a squeling sound coming form the engine bay???
And how can your ignition timing be off???

I must have missed somthing somewhere in all of my experience with DSM's.

You cannot set base timing on a 2G? What if you have a 6 bolt and a 1G CAS?...then what do you do?

I am needing a timing belt lower cover JUST SO I can set the base timing (timing marks) and now I find out that I can't.....What is the RIGHT answer?

If you have a 1G CAS you use it to set the base timing. I was under the impression that it was only the 95-96 models that you can't change the base timing.
