So.... I misread my manual at 2am when I was installing my timing belt and being the newb that I am I configured timing off 3 teeth because a diagram I was looking at was referencing oil pump installation. At any rate, dumb mistake. Now that the motor is back in the car a family friend with 40 years of experience told me what I did sounded all wrong. So I double checked and sure enough. Is there an easy way to adjust the timing. Bringing it to TDC is no problem but getting to the tensioner is beast. I couldn't even manage to do this without pulling the engine last time and I will NOT do it again. I removed the motor mounts, jacked it up and was able to get one timing cover bolt out. I dropped it back down and I cant seen to access the other 2 bolts ever. This family friend mentioned something about sliding a piece of leather under the belt over the cam sprocket and rotating the cam and simply removing the leather. Well, I have no leather, but I humored the idea by attempting to see if there was any way to slip something under the belt and that seems damned near impossible. Any suggestions?

The leather is not a good idea, that may have worked back in the with mechanical tentsioner, try that on your Hyd tentsioner there is a good chance that it can bottom out and blow out.

The timing belt is not something you guess, or experiment with, have it fail and you will be in for more work and out a good chunk of change.

You are not the first to have to fight with the timing belt, in can be done in chassis, take your time and research it a bit more, read the FAQ on it till your eyes bleed.

The mount was a cinch. Its the mount bracket that's giving me a hard time. I can get the top front bolt out but not the lower ones. If I can get the bracket off does the timing cover come off too or do I need to pull the crank pulley?

You need to pull the crank pulley also and the requires a Chrysler crank puller. Which you can rent for free from Autozone. Like I was saying about the 2 other mount bracket bolts, drill a 3/4 inch hole behind the passengers tire to gain access. I did it that way and it way easy.

I meant getting the plate off is a pain. This is what I used to baby mine outta there.

And yes, to take the crank pulley off you need the Chrysler puller (I got mine at O'Riley's). I had to use a longer bolt than factory with washers to "pull" my crank off. That too was a pain. Once you have these two steps mastered the rest of the timing job is fairly straightforward.

Yeah, Ive already had this bad boy apart once but it was out of the car. So I have to pull the pull just to remove the front timing cover? Son of a bish!

Zip tied the belt to the cover and one cam while I adjusted the other. Worked great. Turned it over and verified time. She's solid. Thanks for the help guys. My shit jack just didnt go high enough so I found another 4x4 and used that for the extra height. Bracket slid right out.
