timing jumped 6 teeth

So my buddy's talon jumped 6 teeth on the timing.

Are his valves toasted?

Mosr likely. Test it.

I would say for sure they are. Timing belt tensioner bad? What the heck happened?

Was it on the camshaft or crankshaft that he jumped the teeth?

I just got done replacing my timing belt. My crankshaft pulley was off its mark by at least 6 teeth. My valves are fine, luckily.

If its the cams that are offset, then chances are the valves are probably messed up.

He could do a leakdown test to find out for sure without taking anything apart.

Honestly I'm not sure what happened. I'll have to ask him which gear skipped.

Crank or cam is the same thing. Just depends on the users relative position. Asking which one kind of makes no sense. The only possible exception being the end crank did slip meaning both cams are off relative to the crank vs a single cam slipping.

Ah OK, I guess the moral of this story is,

A: don't drive with a bad oil seal leaking directly on the timing belt.

B: why is the belt so loose? "Ah fuk it, don't need that cover either."

C: don't drive 100 mph in 4th gear.

D: have a working tach. And oil pressure gauge, and coolant temp gauge.

And maybe your 1g won't breakdown.

Another one is the gm side post battery arcing off the intake piping. Solution u ask?

Wrap an old T-shirt around it. No more arc. Haha #brokeguyfailure
