Timing belt wear issue on new belt

Hey all,

With my head rebuild I replaced my timing belt, the automatic tensioner and the bearings.
Technically everything looks fine and the tension is good.
BUT, there is some weird kind of wear going on at a portion of my belt. All the lettering is gone already after less than 1000 miles. and a band of wear is visible at the belt. At first I thought it was thinking this was caused by the belt rubbing somewere, but when inspecting the belt while the car is running, I cant see it rubbing anywere..
Here is a picture: I lightly spraypainted a piece of the belt so the wear would be more visible.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Idler roller could be hanging up with roller resistance causing the excessive surface wear. Take the belt out to inspect both rollers.

Did you replace both rollers with the belt?

I pulled off both lower and upper timing belt covers after I saw the rubbing mark on the belt. I spraypainted a piece of the belt and I'm driving withouth any covers at the moment. This to eliminate the possibility that it is rubbing the cover some were. And as you can see the paint is still rubbing off.

I replaced the rollers with the belt.
All OEM parts I bought at the dealer.

I've heard of people putting too long of bolts in the oil pan below the timing belt and it would rub. Doesn't seem like it would look like that though.

DSM1G90, what is about the rollers, how could they be causing the rubbing?

97_4g63t, I already checked for bolts touching the tb, but I will double check it later today

I'm thinking he is saying that if they stop rolling the belt will just be rubbing across the stationary roller. While you're down there make sure all the bolts are still to torque spec. Could of missed one and its causing the roller to not be in line.

I still didn't manage to solve the problem, at first I was thinking the valve cover was leaking, but this is dry. The bolts of the oil pan aren't the problem, and I don't see any problem with the rollers... it's so weird it seems to wear more at the outer edges, and on the side closest to the block there seems to be a shimmering (oil?)

Definitely looks like a little bit of oil on the inside of the belt but I'm not sure about that rubbing.

put a different color of paint on the belt and start the car while it is wet. you will be able to track where the belt is touching then. UV paint or white or something bright.

it looks polished not oily, (hard to tell in the pick.) but it looks more like it is rubbing over a locked up roller. that is why the shine seems to match the pastern of the teeth in some spots. (pressure and tightness of the belt, etc)

the bottom left pulley, the one for the tensioner on the balance shaft belt, if you got the wrong pulley it will fit but can rub the back edge of the timing belt.

check where your tensioner pulley is I have seen people tighten the pulley the wrong way and it rubs on the tensioner arm.

I have had the same problem with my eclipse and i cant find the problem either with mine is like the belt hangs off just a hair causing the timing belt to start a slight shear on it still working on it
