Timing Belt\Water pump

I know they say you should replace the timing belt when your doing your water pump.. but i just need to get the car running right now. so could i just replace the water pump without messing with the timeing belt right now??? the egine doesnt have alot of miles on it, and i plan on doing the belt later on down the road.. im short on money right now and i need to get this car running.. is it just stupid to not do the belt while your down there or can i hold off on the belt and just do the pump ???
 
To get to the water pump, you'll have to take off the timing belt, so its one of those "you might as well" situations. You'll just have to re-do the whole timing belt replacement procedure again once you are ready to replace it.

If you know the last time it was replaced, and it was under 60K miles, you should be ok. If its over that, you'll still probably be ok, but you do want to change it when you can.
 
How old is the belt? and how many miles? If you are changing the wp just blow the few more $ and throw a new one on!
 
Yeah, it does fit in as a "might as well" job. You're gonna have to take off the tbelt to do the water pump anyways, and unless your flat out broke, putting on a new tbelt would definitely be a good idea. Just make sure that you have all the resources, parts, help etc. to do the job, my car sat around for a good couple of months because I wasn't totally prepared. My 2 cents.

Exactly. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. Another $40ish here would save you alot more time and effort down the line. Just wait it out and get a new pump. They are made for a relatively light serivce load of 60k, so keep that in mind.
