I did some research and could not find info on how often to change the timing belt. I know to do it every 60,000 miles but what about time? I just went thru my maintance records and I had the timing belt replaced at 39,000 miles in 1994 under a recall, freebie :thumb:. Then I had it done at 84,000 miles back in 2003. She now has 93,200 miles on her so the timing belt has only been on there less than 10,000 miles but has been on there 8.5 years. The belt looks fine. I just want to know what you guys think and if I have to get it done, how much does it cost these days? :hmm:

If in doubt change it and all timing parts, prices varies from most shops, a couple of hours job. I would assume under 500 bucks you need parts too.

You can never go wrong changing a old belt on one of these cars. If it breaks you will have to pay far more to fix it. If you do the timming yourself its very cheap I bought all my parts for under $150. To conclude I'd change the belt being its 8.5 years old. Good luck.

$150??? How did you manage that?! Did you buy used parts? Mitsubishiparts.net is where I figured would be the cheapest place for OEM. I've also heard getting from STM too.

OEM Is over rated. Gates is fine. Only piece I would go with OEM 100% of the time is the tensioner.

Plenty of options on this site.

How ever I would go with a gates belt, dayco component kit, and oem tensioner.
