Timing belt tensioner pulley tool ?

I am about to do a timing belt and water pump replacement on my 91 Eclipse GS is there any one out there that can tell me the distance between the 2 pin holes on the timing belt tensioner pully I am going to try to have a machinist friend make me a tool I will post the dimensions online later so every one who needs one but can not afford it can try making there own

You can buy this tool from just about every one of the vendors. Just saying, there's a much easier way to go about doing this...might be "cheaper", but time is money too my friend...not to mention saving the headache.

Why don't you just take your pulley to the machine shop and have your friend make the tool using the pulley. You will end up with a better fitting tool like that. They really aren't that expensive to buy. I think mine was like 20 bucks or so.

idk if the vendors would appreciate someone posting the specs of the tool they are trying to sell on the internet. i would really requiremend buying the Jayracing kit, its great and hassle free. i was very intimidated about doing the 6bolt belt, ive been doing every little thing to ensure it runs perfect afterward and that meant getting on the proper tools. i know how ya feel.

Well i would assume that you will be getting a new tensioner pulley, so just take the new pulley to him.

Not replacing the pulley car only has 65000 miles on it replacing belt because water pump leaking and I am already going to be in that far so why not do the belt. Plus trying to save every penny I can unemployed and economey is hurting my family.
Why not post online the specification of the tool to many companys are ripping people off with the prices of these things. All I need is the measurements from hole to hole or from pin to pin if any one has time and are willing to share the information. I will post the final measurements and specifications when the tool is finished. My friend is a machinist of 30 plus years and has been doing engineering work for about the last 10 years so he will tell me how to make it and what materials to use so every one else who is not MR. MONEY bags or just like keeping things cheap can make one them selfs.

That link is helpfull with the whole removale and replacement of the timing belt procedures, but still like to get the measurements on the 2 pin tool or the pulley holes because I still don't have the tool for the job to be done correctly

I love the path least travelled. You should buy a foundry and make steel. Then use the steel and build a CNC mill. Once that's finished, you can design and build the cheap little $20 pully tool.

OR

Spend $20 at Jay Racing and call it good. I garuntee it takes more than an hour for a good machinist to make one of those. And what kind of machinst works for less than $20/hr. So, who's coming out ahead by making something that costs less to buy than to make?

Sorry Mr Moderator who has a 600whp car(very nice by the way) all I am looking for is one measurement and from what I see about your car you have the money to buy the tool I don't so I do things as cheap as I can and my friend is not charging me for the materials or laber to make the tool and he has access to a lot of scrap metal of all kinds; steel, stainless steel, aluminum tungsten carbide, titanium, copper, plus more. He also has access to mills, lathes, cnc machines, presses plus more. Has the skills to make the tool from that one measurement and a look at a picture. So no foundry needed and no need to build my own cnc mill. Once he has that measurement I could get that tool in my hand free of charge in less than 24 hours no money out of pocket no 2 to 5 day wait for delivery my car gets back on the road sooner rather than later.

No need to appologize to me. I think it's great that your buddy works for free. I'm just so used to putting a value on my time and rationalizing work vs. purchases.

I make many of my own parts too. But only the ones that either aren't available to purchase, or cost more than $20.

I'll get you your measurement once I get home and after my first brewskie.

Since your dead set on not buying the tool I pulled out an old tensioner pulley and measured it for you. I'm getting 0.695 in for outer edge to outer edge and .412 in for inner edges of the two holes and 0.142 in for diameter of them. Hope this helps you.

Remember to make the diameter for the shaft smaller than the hole size.

I sure hope you're at least also replacing the tensioner while you're in there (unless it was replaced around 60,000 miles for the typical timing belt job).
