hey guy starting on my project of re timing a motor the PO couldnt get timed ( 95 gst )

i striped the timing belt off and am starting from the basics ( the car was sitting for over a year and a half ) --

my question is should the oil pump be really hard to turn? i was under the impression that it should spin pretty freely and not be hard enough to turn that i have to put a ratchet on it and put some good force behind it to spin it

do i have a problem here or is this normal?

thanks in advance

I recently retimed my buddys 96 gst and for sure i remember that it didnt take much to spin the oil pump to align the timing marks.. only the crank took some force of course. If i were you id do the good old fashion water pump, oil pump, tensioner, and of course oem belt replacement. Especially since its been sitting for that long, you dont want to just slap things back together and risk head problems. Better to be safe than sorry especially with dsm's

ok sounds like that things toast, i timed the motor and its all timed correctly, im getting

45,0,0,0 across the board for my compression -- sounds like bent valves to me -- what do you guys think?

re do the head, new oil pump, water pump, and timing belt in order it sounds liek

the cars timing was probaly off alot and you bent some valves.. and just to make sure i would do a leak down test to make sure you're rings arent worn out as well. dsmgraveyard has 2G heads new and used that you could slap on to get her running again

and yes absolutely change the water and oil pumps, and timing belt
