timing belt failure

i had my timing belt replaced 40 k ago,friday it snapped but the way it snapped has me stumped it was shredded to bits but only half way across all the way around the belt to where she broke any ideas?

my timing belt tore right down the middle like this before. im betting this is what happened. your balance shafts bearing spun inside the block, then after time it eventually caused the balance shaft to seize up, then when it seized, it tore the timing belt, just like you said. same thing happened to me. now your looking at new valves, balance shaft elim kit, all new timing components, etc. it probly wasnt a faulty belt or anything, because those balance shafts can be a real dsm killer.

I'd check to see if the short oil pan bolts were replaced where they belong under the belt.
