Well the other day I went out to get some tuning done and ran into a little issue. At the top of a 3rd gear pull I felt a vibration so I let off. It continued to vibrate the whole way home and I was kind of stumped on the cause. I thought balance shaft belt but would have thought the result would have been a little more tragic. I parked it for the night and looked things over the next day. I took the upper timing cover off and noticed chunks of a belt all over the place. From there on out it was obvious the BS belt had broke or failed.

I took the timing cover off and saw that the BS belt was perfectly smooth on the inside due to the teeth being shredded off. I was kind of concerned that the front silent shaft was going to be locked up but it spins perfectly with zero binding what so ever. I should have checked the BS belt when I bought the car about 11 months or so ago but didn't.

So basicly, the moral of the story is that I got VERY lucky the belt didn't snap instead and lead to a destroyed motor. I just wanted to create a thread just in case someone has the same thing happen to them. The vibration started at high rpms and would fade in and out if the accelerator was held steady anywhere above ~3k rpms.

All of my parts arrived today, including a set of Fp2 cams so I guess I gained something out of this ordeal.:thumb:

Here is a picture of the belt:

Yeah, I was missing like 6-7 teeth from my BS belt ...

And it was only 15k miles old. WTF

The first time my Balance Shaft Belt failed it snapped and wrapped itself around the crank sprocket, jumping my timing belt and mangling 8 intake valves, 4 roller rockers, and the Intake Cam. This was only 1000 miles after I bought it used!

The second time the BSB broke it bunched up around the Balance Shaft so the engine continued to run although it was a little "buzzy". I guess I was lucky that time.

Needless to say I have eliminated the Balance Shafts altogether to avoid any more catastrophies.

Same thing happened to me, the timing belt did jump a tooth but not enough to bend any valves, since than I've eliminated the BS and never looked back, still runs just as smooth as it did before(I do have polyurethane mounts maybe that is why can't tell the difference)

Same exact thing happened to me. Now I have no balance shafts and a new set of HKS 264 cams. :)

However, I bent two valves after installing the cams. Oh, the irony.
