Hey folks.
I bought my car 4 years ago and have only heard it run. It ran good but had a a v8 cam sound to it (very lopey). Needless to say between buying a house and traveling for work I'm finally getting back into getting it running again, so I'm attempting a timing belt change since the one I have looks a lil shotty. Before I had bought it, the engine was rebuilt by a reputable shop here in Jersey. I had thought that it was wierd that a rebuild didn't include a new timing belt. So here I am.
I turn the car over to what I believe is TDC with the cam dowel pins at 1200 and the timing marks at 3:00 and 9:00. And of course the mark on the crank pulley is way passed the T on the cover. I turn and turn and turn the motor over and can't get the marks to even come close to lining up. I proceed with the removal of the splash shield. I had noticed right off the bat that the oil pump marks don't line up.
Again and again I turn the motor over watching the marks but to no avail, nothing lines up. From what I have read and watched all the marks should all line up. From observing the marks go around the closest I could get them was within 4 teeth on the cam gears. Here are pics of the oil pump lined up and the cam gears not lined up. WHAT GIVES?
Thank you for your time
