Okay here is what I have, and my problem.
1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD turbo, no known mods, but I only bought it 1 week ago. The day I bought the car it ran cleen, no noise no smoke. The next day I changed the oil, drove it about 100 miles and now I have blue smoke bellowing out of the exhaust and a ticking noise from the head. Also started idling funny.
I am new to the DSM world and have no idea of whats going on. Any input would be great. Thank you.

I drained the oil, my brother added the oil. Im pretty sure he only put in quaker state 5 or 10/30 due to the fact we did the change at Jiffy Lube.

I did the change because I notice the last sticker in the window said 173,000 and the odometer read 179,000

6k miles aint too bad, for it won't kill the motor with the oil change that far distant.

Does it blue during idle, or under power?

Did your bro' get the oil pan plug and/or oil filter on tight while under the rack along with checking the oil level when you noticed the bluing?

But 5w/30 is a bit too thin for our motors. The minimum is 10w30. Hope you didn't wind it up tight before the oil got up to pressure, for that will raise a bit of havoc with rings scarring up the cylinder walls and main crank bearings..

Good luck-DSM

The plug and filter were tight as can be, did the bottom myself. The car idled in the shop for probably 5 minutes before pulling out. And the smoke is at both idle and rolling.

So far I have ordered a head kit thinking bad valve. Will be replacing belt and tensioner at that time.
How hard would it be to pull the pistons with the motor in the car to replace rings, hone, and bearings?

Do a leak down test and compression test that will tell you if you need new rings....You could just have a bad valve stem seal causing smoke as well.

Never mind, leakdown test was a dumb question, reverse compression test. Never the less, what is good compression?

okay 130 and above, thank you Velosity.
Next question, valvestem seals? hard to replace or easy?

I have done all of the test, all was suprisingly good. I ordered a head rebuild kit and pulled my head apart to learn that I was a moron for asking before checking things out first. It turns out that I had a broke valve stem guide and bent valves due to a lose belt. Anybody know of a shop who will replace my guides for me?
Thank you all for the help

130 and above? WTF

I'd say 150 and above.
Throw in 20w-50 and call it a day.

130 is the service compression for 6 bolts... Or was it 135... Its in the 130s LOL. But yeah, I would hope for at least 150, which would be pretty good for the engine mileage. Btw, I use synthetic blend 10W-30 and it works well.
