So I have a block out of a 98 GS-T with ub9738 stamped on it but pretty sure the wrong girdle for the main the stupid half moon style. I have another block that I know is out of a 95 that has the same girdle that came with my 98? Block so I measured the journals on the block and they came out the same width with my calipers because I heard that only the right style will fit. I just rebuilt my friends 4g64 and have a girdle for the split type thrust bearing obviously need an alignment hone etc. But shouldn't I have the revised style girdle/ thrust bearings with a ub9738?

by half moon you mean 2 piece? or one piece? im not tracking your lingo, maybe iits just me but pictures could clear everything up.

well the 1 piece "half moon" is the revised version. the 6 bolt came with seperate pieces, and 6 bolt guys buy the 2 long girdle strips to reinforce it. if you have a 7 bolt then you dont have to worry about the girdle.

the top left picture is the 6 bolt girdle.
the top right is the OEM POS girdle.
bottom left is 6 bolt upgrde girdle installed.
botteom right is 7 bolt oem girdle. no need to upgrade.

He is talking about the actual thrust bearing. In 90-97 cars it is built in to the center main bearing. In 98-evo9 it's a separate thrust washer, not part of the main bearing.

Can some with a revised thrust bearing block measure the width of the bearing location and post what they measure out also can you just swap main girdles and then put the revised bearings/thrust washers in a non revised block? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/435073-7-bolt-thrust-bearing.html it seems like have a 98 block out of a fwd and they didnt switch the design yet or i just have the wrong girdle
