I have a 97 gst with all my rod bearings in the oil pan. I have a 4g64 block out of a 99 spider. What all do i need to do other than plug up the 5 holes on the block? Im not trying to build a beast or any thing i just want it to run and pass smog, i live in california . Will throwing the block in the car work for my goal. Or should i wait and try and source a 4g63? I know this question has been beat up in the past. But not by me and its a little easier to communicate directly then sift through other people's post.

Easier is not always bettter, If you search you will get much more details. In short Yes it will work, the only other gotcha whould be to change the oil pan or add a turbo oil drain feed hardware wise. There are other minor changes but will work.

Keep in mind that the internals are not as strong as the 4g63. If you do end up going that route I personally wouldn't beat on the motor or anything.
