throttle issue

OK so i just rebuilt my 1990 tsi and first start up was yesterday. , but then came the issue when she is started its idles fine, but when i give it gas at idle it drop scary low like it wants to die and then raises RPM. If i feather the throttle it doesnt do it. I got it to 5k and it didnt cut up. It only does when u first push the gas.

Try adjusting your TPS. This could be the culprit.

I kind of had the same problem. Also while you are at it, check the tension of the throttle cable, it could have too much slack to it.

Ill check the tps. The throttle cable does have some slack but, it does the same thing when i play with the actual throttle

If it idles fine i though it wouldn't be a tps sensor it sound like if you give it gas it want to cut out may be not enough fuel pressure to keep up with it but if u slowly give it gas does it do it?

Idle isn't affected by the tps on my 2g 4g63. I know this because I had my car do something similar to the OP's car when my tps harness disconnected from the tps. Car would idle like a champ, but as soon as I depressed the throttle the car would cut out, and pretty much die. Reason my harness came off was I had no clip for it, and over the course of a few weeks it vibrated loose. Zip ties saved the day heh.

Not sure if it's the same way on a 1g but i'd bet money it is, so his issue very well could be the tps.

Wish I could say definitively but all I have is my little anecdote

Alot of the 2g and 1g stuff is the same because i get some of my parts from my friend who had a 2g

well i figured out the issue i checked the scanner and my coolant temp sensor was reading -14 before start up.
