Throttle Cable Issue

Alright guys I didn't know where else to post this issue but here since the other forums really dont have an issue like this. I looked over all the posts and can't find it so here is my problem:

Inside the car my gas pedal (accelerator) whatever is where my problem is. The pedal under the dash has the cable that runs to it for the throttle. Now that cable has a ball at the end that allows to pedal pull on the cable to accelerate. However the ball is not touching the pedal it has a quarter of an inch of play before it even engages the cable. How do I adjust this??? I have a stock cruise control box. Is my wire just old and stretched so now it's time for a new one? I attached a pic

Try ajusting the cable ontop of your intake manifold, see if that helps.

Same thing happens to me. The cable falls of the eccentric and my gas pedal becomes stiff. Check the cable for slack.

The cables have a lot of slack on them, also I tried the adjustment on the manifold and it did not work. I think I am just going to put a none cruise control cable on but still. Anyways give me some more ideas. I don't even know how to remove the cable

So please anyone know what to do. VFAQ has no adjustment nothing anywhere

As a stop gap until you get a new cable you can put a small cable clamp in front of the ball to take up the slack. You can get one at about any hardware deparment.

This is actually a very good fix to do. Here is what you do to the store and get you some kind of clamp, not something real big, then pull that ball wile the car is started so you can make sure your not revving it, but your getting the slack out, then put the clamp on the cable right after the pedal... This can be a permanent fix depending on how good of a clamping device you use is.

actually any one think of just taking out the cruz,and cruz box and extra cable and putting in a 1.8 cable its a perfect fit and better throttle response...

The 1.8 doesn't have cruise control?? I thought about using JB weld to fill the gap since it dries so well and hard, it might work to hold it in place. A clamp is too big to fit in the little spot the cable is sticking out. I don't know what else to do all I can figure is this cable is 18 years old and it stretched out finally

IT WAS A OPTION and most 1.8 dont.... and its pretty hard to STRETCH a cable, they make the pedal stopers for that reason...

PLEASE dont JB weld anything on a dsm... it just doesnt show dsm pride in your work kinda thing...

I got my non cruise cable from my old 2.0. Its pretty easy to change. You can pull the cable off the pedal (the hardest part actually), and unbolt it from the firewall and just start disconnecting it. Then just reverse that with the new cable. Should improve throttle response too!

Just had this happen to mine, ALMOST blew the engine up as the damned thing stuck the gas pedal to the floor as I started the engine one cool morning last week.

After a lot of Cussing and bending upside down to look up in the area you pictured I found the problem.

I initially thought the same as everyone else that my cable had stretched or had somehow come loose. BUT if you bend your head a little further and take a look at where the cable goes through the firewall you'll see the problem.

Where the actual cable goes into the outer casing of the cable assembly it has a little 3 inch long wear tube that slips into the outer case and prevents the metal cable wearing on the outer case. This little wear tube I presume is supposed to be attached to the outer sleeve, but I guess over the years it came undone and slipped out. The friction betweeen the metal cable over time mangaed to pull the tube out of the sleeve and eventually all the way out....WHICH happens to be about exactly where WOT is. The tube jammed on the outer sleeve and stopped the cable returning the full distance back to idle. I had to press the pedal to the floor and while contorting my arms around the pedal box, fed the tube back into the sleeve and pushed it all the way back in.

I'm assuming your problem is very much the same just looking at your picture.

I have a 1.8L single cable on my Talon, I removed the 2 piece cruise control cable and I am thinking this might be a common prob' on those cables.

Great info!!! I will check into that. I hate being upside under the dash did that for a master cylinder change recently not fun at all. But what you are saying makes sense. Alost of sense

It's a major pain in the rearend, but can almost guarantee this is your prob'. Once you see the tube in question it'll only take a couple minutes to get it fixed. If you have a friend close by, grab tham and get them to help press the pedal down, while you find new ways for your ass to be stuck to their face. It'll make the job a helluva lot easier with an extra set of hands, I wish I had, but I was in the middle of a airport parking lot when it went down for me.

Resolved!! Went to a non cruise control throttle cable and actually bent the peddle assembly to get 100 percent WOT!! Awesome
