If I choose to Turbocharge my Talon, which has the 420a in it I'm curious what steps I should take.

Oh what Turbochargers I should choose and I don't want to do a single Turbo I want a compound Turbo system. If I'm going to do it, I want to do it, right?

Any thoughts on what Turbo I should get and what type of c*** work? I should do. My engine has a 117000 on it and I've been thinking about bulletproofing. It forged pistons Ford everything. Just upgrading it all low compression pistons. But I'm not a 100% sure. I'm still a newbie ADS m tuner world. I'm typically driving trucks in my minivan for my sons but these are all ideas that boys and me have discussed a little bit.

I would like some other opinions and I me and the kids are discussing all this and decide how we want to go with it because we want a powerful car that we can drive every day if we want

I gotta keep in mind too.I'm on an extreme budget being a single father of four I would prefer brand new parts. But I will definitely eat up use all day long if it has the right price.

Welcome to the site.

First step would be to read and many of the postings here as you can' There is years of experience from people who have done (or tried to do) what you're thinking of. It will save you a lot of time and money.

Second, I suggest you start saving and building up your budget for this conversion. In the meantime get the rest of the car in top shape. Make sure there isn't any rust in the front strut towers which usually kills these cars.

Good Luck and have fun with your boys.

If you’re on an extreme budget as a father of four, I’d suggest you don’t do this. Few people succeed at turbocharging a 420A and those that do - spend a lot. There are more important things in life than this.

My strut towers are nice and clean miraculously. Cause this car wasn't Texas car and she didn't get drove much. Apparently, I still don't know how she's as rough as she is, but she is. I'm trying to figure out a way of protecting it for a long time to come without spraying bed liner on it. I live in our road. Winter roads are some of the worst things there are for cars. So I need to figure out a way to protect it. Better cause it gets quite pricey. Going to the car wash 23 times a week under carriage. Washes get pretty pricey up here when they know it's worth it. My 16-year-old said we should Have got a Nissan Skyline GT. R. R33I looked at him and told him to start saving money. Cause I aint never gonna be able to afford it.
But yeah, I appreciate the advice. And life. I work night security. I spent all night reading posts from everybody and I'm really thinking the way to go is a compound set up. And I wanna do high performance top and bottom end.Do everything high performance in the motor I want to upgrade the entire dryer suspension and I want to convert it over to all wheel drive as well as do away with Automatic training and put a standard in it

Good luck. I’ve never seen or even heard of a compound setup on a 4cyl car. There’s only 1 and swapped 420a car that I know of and he has a Evo engine in it. The 420a is just a economy car engine that they put into the lower trim Eclipses/Talons, and with parts being next to impossible to find these days it’s better off being a boat anchor. If you and your boys want something fun to drive look for another car platform or sell your talon and get one with a 4g63. But even the cars with 4g63s aren’t super reliable and are still coming up on 30 years old.

If you're really serious about this consider what all is involved. The parts list at a bare minimum would be as follows:

Turbocharger (you asked what you should choose. There is no way to answer that without knowing other things or how the car would be used. There is no "best" turbo)
Exhaust manifold
Intake piping with intercooler
Larger injectors
Fuel computer to control those injectors
Fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator
MISC plumbing for the fuel above

This would be the MINIMUM list.
With just this minimum list I would estimate you're at 3500$ and that is before any labor.
If you find turbo "kits" for a few hundred dollars you can equate that to buying the cheapest shoe you can find compared to a nice leather boot. Will it do the job...well for a little bit it might.
Additional items would be clutch to hold additional power.
If you plan on making any amount of considerable power you would need internal engine components.

Let's start with what are your mechanical skills? if they aren't very very good I would not suggest this. It would be less expensive to buy a sorted out car. you can still have fun with suspension, cosmetic upgrades etc.

A compound turbo setup on an extreme budget? I wouldn't even attempt a single turbo setup on an "extreme budget". There's an article in the 420A section about turbocharging for less than $1000. Not only is that information extremely outdated, but I also wouldn't use most of those parts or processes in the first place.

Sounds like you have a fun car in mind. But the practicality - and most of all: price, are not aligning with your expectations.

What's your reasoning for the compound turbo setup vs a standard single turbo setup? One small turbo will spool up quick and make more boost than you'd want to build the car for. Many others have successfully made over 300whp with a small turbo, sturdy internals and thorough tuning. The N/T models are light cars and would haul ass at that power level. And most of all, be usable on the street daily.

If you're looking for a little extra pep, there's still a few bolt ons available to get you that much. But if you're looking to substantially increase the power output, start saving now, as much as you can.
