So i read "GSgoingFast"s forum on how to install low budget turbo and my question is do you have to chip youre ecu? or no?

Our ecu's can not be chipped. You can get by with out a major engine management unit. But it is not the best route to go. Going cheap usually doesn't last long. At the very least you will need a sfmu, safc, fcd and a wide band along with everything to support the turbo. Read some more forums and you will see what I'm talking about.

If you have a 1997 non-turbo model you can not chip your ECU. The cheapest option is megasquirt. The other options go up in price from there. You can use a piggyback or a rrfpr, but I would advise against it.

Well if you read the method of using an FMU, you can run 8psi "safely" with the stock tune. The only part that gets sketchy about using the stock tune with boost is the timing, but I have seen quite a few applications and they haven't quite blown up yet.
The knock sensor can "help" save the motor, but there's a chance that by the time any knock is detected its all bad.

Thanks for the help, I've got my buddy helping me on it and that was just a thought process he was wondering cause when he swapped his Supra from twin turbo to single he was worried helping me we'd have to do something for the ECU but thanks alot guys
