hey fellas.....i was wondering i am thinking....again...about buying a 2nd gen dsm....i have had two 1 gen dsms that i love but i want something newer.....the car has 119k miles on the engine...stock.....turbo has been replaced....

please tell me the odds of anything like crankwalk... or anything messing up with the engine :dsm:

People are so quick to blame everything on crankwalk...I say don't worry about it. Too many people out there blow up their motor because they tried to run xx boost with no control and blame it on crankwalk. If your worried about it, check the crank play in the car you are looking at...doesn't take that long to do and it will put you at ease.

hey how do i even check for crankwalk...do i push and tug the crankshaft

there are so many cases of crankwalk situations with these 2nd gen cars.....wow.....i am worried sick about buying this car.....but i really want the 2nd gen

You only really hear about the cases where people have crankwalk...there are a whole lot more people out there who don't come on tuners, who don't report anything who's 2g is not walking. Of the 8 or 9 tuners with 2gs I know immediately around here, none of them have died from crankwalk. I only have a 6-bolt because I had a non-crankwalk related bottom end knock.

start a poll and see how bad it is, i don't have crankwalk and my milage is 60k. i read somewhere that crankwalk will usually habben at about 40k-60k and so far so good.

i will admit.....the car looks good and pulls nicely.....nice looking car...by the way does it depend on how much u beat on ur car....

thinking about swapping the 6 bolt too

btw you guys know anywhere in the south florida area that does good affordable paint jobs...thinking bout getting the car in ferrari red :dsm:

You haven't really mentioned the year of the 2g in question. Anything from 95-97 has a higher rate of crankwalk and the 98-99 have mutch less although still possible. The 6 bolt swap will not eliminate the possibility alltogether either because even though it is rare, it still can happen on a 6 bolt. The other considerations that you may have is that the later year 2g (97-99) have a different trans than the 95-96. This will not mean mutch if you are buying a FWD but will mean alot to you if you blow a transfer case on a 97-99 AWD. The older 23 spline t-case will not work in the car due to different gearing. :dsm:
