Hello,
I am definitely a newb when it ocmes to DSM's. I've seen the potential of these cars at the track, videos, and on streets. They surely look like an attractive car to modify. My friend just bought one with a "fully built long block" and gt35 turbo from garret.
I'm thinking about purchasing an AWD 5spd turbo 1g DSM. I'm looking to buy one for about $3-4k probably from dsmtrader since they offer substantial amounts of dsm cars for sale compared to other websites.
I've owned an STi and to be honest, I like the power potentials and the aftermarket support for DSMs more so than what the STi and it's after market support have to offer. I currently have a daily driver after selling that STi and am now looking for a car to build on the side that will be a straight line top end performer. Strictly straight line. I'm looking to trap at about 120mph to start with.
Before I begin to modify the car, what would be the best bang for buck? To buy a built shortblock, to buy a 4g63 longblock, or other option? Is the stock motor the same thing for the most part (compared to the evo)? I'd like to run with either an 18g or 20g and produce about 380awhp.
Thanks so much,
Rick
