Just bought a 180 degree thermostat as opposed to the normal 192. Did this because the normal thermostat runs to hot when warmed up. My question is will this be bad for the car or will it keep it at a good opporating temperature?
I think it'll be fine just want a second opinion.

As long as the temperature reaches 180* you fine. I personally run a 170* tstat. It takes a while to warm up but it keeps my temps down. Can't wait to see how it performs in the summer heat.

Well there are pro's and cons to running a lower temp stat! So from what I remember and have read about the lower stat.
Pros:-
lower temps of course
Can run harder for longer.
Great for summer use.

Cons:-
Increased engine wear according to research
Very slow at heating up in the winter
Will loose a few mpg from running colder

Now you will see it run richer as its colder and will add more fuel now this can be a good thing and bad thing all depends of how you use the lower temp stat to your advantage! If its just a replacement then the 195 stat will be best as again research showed that's the best operating temp for an engine (so I've read) I'm no scientist LOL

Overall I don't see a problem but I'd keep an eye on the gauge as you drive to make sure its not running too cold. Just be aware it will take longer in the winter to fully warm up.

I run the 170. It's perfect keeps coolant temps in the 180s and around 176 at normal no boost situations. Tho it is a cold ride up here in pa.
