I know there are a few posts on this topic and I apologize, but my question wasent exatly answered. Both of these sensors on my thermostat housing got the wires pulled out, I fixed one but need to buy the other one. I found out the one I fixed is the one that sends the temp to my dash. What does the other sensor do that has the wires pulled out (as seen in picture) I just got the car started and had it running and there was no check engine light with the one sensor not plugged in but after a small cruise around the block check engine light came on, can this sensor pull a code? What do both of these sensors do exactly and where can I but a new sensor? Thanks!

The larger sensor on the left in your picture is the Coolant Temperature Sensor (Part #MD177572). This sensor provides signals to the ECU which is one of the major signals the ECU uses to adjust the radiator fans and is also one of the sensors the ECU uses to adjust fuel mixtures. This one is the most important of the two and is likely the cause of the CEL you observed.

The smaller one with the red connector in your picture is the Water Temperature Gauge sensor (part # MD091056) Its function is solely for the temp gauge on the cluster.

Both sensors can be had from supporting vendors on this site.

Perfect that's what I thought great explination. If I get a new one from the vendors will it come with wires that I can just splice to the two wires?
