I am having soo much trouble findind a small 16g for a budget sheet for my car. By this i mean im estimating the cost of the 300 hp upgrade path with a small 16g and what my question is is can someone recommend me a brand and where to find it because this is turning out to b a real chore , and on the other side of this an install kit as well your imput would be most valued and please dont try and convince me to get another turbo i kinda weighed my options and want this one. Thank you. :D

Well get a oem one thats the brand to get also i would look at support mods for your set up, budget look around for them did you yet. im sure you can find a 16g turbo there out there depends on if you want it bad enough and your budget. try classifieds, ebay, vendors part outs, freelancer rebuilds there are builders right here on this site under freelance services.

Are you looking for a new or used turbo. There is only one brand of 16g turbos that you will even want to consider and that is Mhi. If you want a new one than i would go to extremepsi and check out the evoIII for 849.00

If youre looking for a used one you just have to be patient. They will show up once in a while but make sure its a MHI turbo. Personally if you have to cash get a brand new evoIII for $900. i have a hard time buying a used turbo because you never know what the person before you did to it

Like others are saying, the only brand you want is MHI (Mitsu) and your not going to find one for cheap. Even then your only going to find Evo 3 16g's, not the Small version.

I would keep an eye out for used ones. If the condition of the turbo is questionable, send it off to be rebuilt by one of our Freelancers. But I would run a junkyard MHI 16g over a Godspeed 16g any day. MHI turbos are incredibly tough.

PM Jusmx141, I bought a rebuilt small 16g from him for a pretty reasonable price. As far as install kit, you can buy one here from STM, or if you're getting a fmic just piece together your own, all the vendors sell everything you need

There is only one Small 16G, and it's made by Mitsubishi.

The Small 16G is by far a best-seller. Direct bolt-on capability, reliable, inexpensive to service, and very quick-spooling for the amount of airflow it generates.

Thank you all for your responses i kinda have my heart set on a small 16g mostly because im only trying to go up to 300 hp to beat my one friends sti and the upgrade path i seen on here says i dont need to change turbos but i did want to just for the sake of mine having 109k miles on it i was told it was remanned but then again i was told the same about the motor and it blew a wristpin ...my luck:cry: But to answer some questions i was looking for new but budget dictates what i get thats why i was looking for a ball park on it i watched a video on how to install this one too and it doesnt take much to need a whole kit it just looked like he added a different oil line and dremeled 2 holes bigger

If your on a budget first thing to ask yourself is has all the preventative maintenance been done. Thats where DSMs get the bad name. People think they can rag on a car that has 150,000 miles on an original timing belt.

Next I would suggest some way to monitor air/fuel ratio. Better safe than sorry. Then go with an MHI 16g. You can buy one good turbo or 5 bad ones. Your car your choice

Do the maintenance first however if you run across a small 16g and think its a good bargain, buy it. You don't always have to install it right away.

I noticed there are a few in the marketplace right now

Also I would check to make sure it is a legit mhi turbo if you do go that route. Good luck

The stock T25 turbo will not make it to 300hp, so swapping turbos is not a bad idea. The small 16g is a much better turbo, not only for performance but reliability as well. Just make sure to install the proper supporting mods before cranking up the boost.

You could always install a stock 14b oil line. Either that or a braided steel line from the filter housing, but that requires installing the proper restrictor as well. For the drain, you can use your stock T25 oil drain. You just need to enlarge or "notch" the turbo-side bolt holes. But there's a good chance it will leak at the bolt holes after. If you plan to install the water lines, you can use small (3/8?) coolant/fuel hose to connect the hard lines. If you don't want the water lines, you will need to loop, cap, or weld shut the water lines coming from the engine. Research thoroughly before going this route.

Ok so another thing that i ran into with this turbo is some say oil catch can others say the little filter thing and the stock smic should suffice at normal boost right?:aha:

like would i need to have an oil catch can for thr new turbo i apologise im new to forced induction but i heard to get one either that or a breather for your valve cover?

As a few of the above posts have stated, your best bet is to find a reconditioned s16G in the classifieds that has been rebuilt by an experienced person. To my knowledge, MHI doesn't produce the s16G anymore unfortunately.
As for the oil catch can and PCV filter...you probably don't need them, and you won't alter their design by installing a 16g turbo. Some people choose to go this route because they don't want a little oil getting into the intake and engine. I figure it was built this way and the infinitesimal gain one may get for stockish DSMs doesn't make it a worthwhile mod. Although, for higher powered DSMs, it does become a necessary mod to relieve crankcase pressure.
