Post up a better mod list, so we can give you an idea if your going to need more mods to help the current mods. There are very fast auto DSMs. No person can shift as fast as an auto:D. Get proof of work done, by way of reciets.
At 4k thats a pretty decent deal for just needing a paint job. Also when you say rebuilt, what is it rebuilt with? 1G"BIG RODS", 2G pistons? Forged internals? Cams? Ect...

Few things.. Do you know this guy personally?

If not - I'd really be skeptical about the rebuilt motor, and the "Transmission from Japan".. First off - check the compression on the engine. That can tell stories. Second.. Transmission - get receipts, and look at it to see if it looks new.. The way it's worded sounds like BS to me.. "From Japan"?! Ok....

The turbo clipped for faster spool up - clipping actually slows the spoolup and gives you more lag.. That also sounds like something this guy is BS'ing about. Sounds like he's trying to appeal to the people that don't know what they're getting into. Sounds likea ricer to me.. Lighted pedals? Strobe washer fluid ports?? Ports?! Ricer..

I'd be leary - I'm willing to bet it's a huge piece of garbage that's about to fall apart.

Look for a nice shape stock one and take good care of it. For 4K you can get a MINT 1G or save another $2k and get a mint stock 2G.

werd.

looks built but this is just an opinion dont go buy it, look for a totally stock car to build yourself. so much could be wrong with a car like that.

I second that. You don't know who did the work, how they did it, what problems they ran into and skimped out on it and bought cheap parts to make it work, etc...... You get our drift. Don't get me wrong, its a nice car, has alot of performance parts, but it just takes the fun out of it. Why buy something that is already modded up when you can buy a stock car and begin the fun???? Takes all the fun out of it, well thats my personal opinion. But it's up to you, because you are the one holding the cash. If you don't want to mod your own car, have the headaches we all ran into modding it and buying new parts because we broke some due to the mods, learn a little bit here and there about these cars, etc. then buy it. You can't go wrong, either way.

If the compression is excellent, I'd say its worth at least 5-6 grand if not more

the engine only has 2k miles on it is what he said. ill have a compression check done before i buy it. he is askin for around 12k though. is that too high for wht it has done??

the engine work was done at the shop the guy works for which is a respectable shop in my are. they have done many dsm engines from rebuilds to full blown strokers. this is the 4th engine the guy has had in the car too. i would LOVE to build up a stock car but it would be alot more money then it would be to buy this car. plus i can still upgrade. i can do brakes and suspension and all that fun stuff which im a little better at. plus interior too. i mean there is still SOME fun to be had. just not a ton...haha...but right now is not a place for me to be looking for a HUGE project. just finishing up another i guess if that makes sense. oh and thank you to the moderators for movin my post.

95 Gst, 159,XXX miles, power windows, locks, 17inch adr rims with yokohamma avid h4s (1 is flat and needs new tire) 2.5 inch fullback, Prothane motor mounts, dejon uicp with 1g bov, k&n filter, Eprom (95), ?autosports? boostgauge, Gready Turbo Timer, MBC never higher than 15lbs. Lowered with what looks like Eibach Springs.

The Good: Fresh new timing belt, Ac belts, plugs, wires, oil changed every 3000 with royal purple since I have owned. Almost perfect Compression, Third owner Carfax Included. No shaft play on turbo (t-25). Shifts Smootly. No oil leaks. Clean Interior . Dosent studder runs smoothly.

The Bad: Lifter Tick, Dent in fender, Missing doorhandle. Key mark on driver door. Needs new clutch cylinder, foggy driver headlight. Needs a new coolant temp sensor or something like that. CEL comes on every so offten for that.

Ok heres the story, I meet this kid, hes 16 years old, and his dad own a shop. So a friend of his dads gave him a pretty "ok" looking 5spd 1990 1g Gs. It reads somwhere around 12x,xxx. I test drove it a few times and everything seems fine. The only thing thats weird is that the e-brake dont work. everything looks stock, i doubt any ingine work has been done or anything. supension feels great and there are no noises or ticking or anything. I dont know if there are any leaks or anything yet. Asking price is ONLY 500 dollars.

Now I am going to take it to the mechanic tonite and see what he says. Im not asking for an amazing car just somthing to mess around with. what do u guys think I should do?

what are your plans for it?

if your looking for alot of speed n power.. ditch it.. find a turbo

if your only looking for a DD that gets pretty good gas milage.. GET IT!

I agree with boosted-dsm. I would only buy it as a secondary car to drive, while you work on a car that actually has potential (turbo AWD preferably). I personally would never drop any money into a N/T again...:beatentodeath: it's just not worth it.

I dont think the 1g is pretty enough to just buy as a DD. There are a lot better looking cars, but for the price thats a good deal. Like they said if you want power go for a stock turbo dsm. Seen many turboed n/t dsm's with thousands of dollors and dyno what a stock turbo dsm would, maybe a little more.

I have a customer who wants to trade me a 89 colt turbo for a pair of ss turbo mustang headers. It has a 4g63 swap done, it's in good shape just needs some finishing up but I really dont know what the car is worth. Does anyone have an idea what they go for?

that sounds like a good deal. a buddy of mine just got one for 2000, already working, with an fmic and a turbo timer. They are fun little cars. He ran an 8.6 at the track with it, so they have some room to grow, being that time was the stock motor with just the fmic

I am about to buy a 91 talon tsi awd. The car is 5 hours away. I was wondering what good/bad things I should be looking for when I see the car and what questions I should be asking before I go and see the car.
Heres the ad:
car has everything: fp green turbo which needs replacing now due to the o2 sensor going into the turbo on sunday it needs replacing. car still runs and drives. thats the reason for the price drop. eagle rods,je pistons, arp head bolts, aeromotive reg/w gauge, buschar front mount,4 bolt rear, act 2600 6 puck clutch,3 inch apexi n1 exhaust,255 walbro pump, turboxs boost controller, turbo xs blow off valve, oil pressure,temp,air/fuel ratio gauge,35 psi boost ,short shifter, hks vpc 660 chip, hks gcc unit,660 injectors, car runs like a beast ive streched 911 turbo porsches, corvettes , mustangs, g35, new m3's especially man this car is great and it starts every morning and takes me to work but due to the turbo going im gonna sell it . im going to florida in 2 weeks I MUST SELL THE CAR WILL TAKE 3500 BOTTOM LINE CASH FOR IT. COME AND DRIVE AWAY.
Car has 113,450 miles black on black, and 5-speed

Also Id like to get dsmlink ( i have an eprom ready) but I was wondering since hes running hks vpc 660 chip, hks gcc unit what stock parts (if any) I would need to make dsmlink work.
here are the pics maybe you guys could give me your opinion on if its worth 3500.

[Too big.]

thanks in advance for the advice

~Chris~

It looks pretty clean. But if it's in such nice condition, one must wonder why he's selling it. I'd offer him $3000 cash. If he says no, walk. I don't understand how the o2 sensor could enter the turbo.

Yeah that o2 sensor into the turbo seems a little sketchy to me too. Check the plugs for hot spots (running lean), or carbon build up (running rich), which it most likely is since he is venting to the atmosphere, not sure if the chip can help correct this problem or not. Ask to see all reciets for all work done to make sure general neccesary maintenance is done such as T-belt, all belts, ect...If you can do a compression test, a boost leak test, and pressure check the cooling system, if he says no to any of these walk away, and go enjoy the beach with all them pretty girls. Look over the paint for the clear coat peeling, take a magnet to the car exterior panels to check for body filler(it wont stick to these areas) if there is BF present then walk away, because there is more rusting away that you cant see. Turn the car on, pop the hood an listen for any sounds that are out of place such as things knocking, ect...(no im not taking about knock that everyone hates to see on their loggers) if this is ok, take the car for a test ride if all these pass, and check for smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe Blue on acceleration: Rings or turbo seals, Blue on deceleration: Valve stem seals, White on acceleration: Head gasket or turbo seals, Black on acceleration: Fuel (running rich or running without a cat). Also for more indepth walk throughj of what to take and what to look for go here>>>http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=238710

EDIT: Oh yeah Im not trying to discredit the seller, because he is here on tuners, but Im pretty sure I remember seeing this car in the classifieds awhile ago, but before he was trying to sell it saying his parents told him to get rid of it, and this was months ago, kinda sketchy thay he seems to NEED to sell imediately.
