Why's the guy selling it with 3k miles on the motor? Who rebuilt it? I've seen a lot cars sold that had fresh rebuilts, only to find that there was problems with it.. Not saying thats it, but I hope you've done a good inspection, compression test, driven it around for a little bit, etc etc.. A lot more to look for. Or have you just seen this off a posting/site? He has a 255l Fuel pump, and no AFPR? Does he have any documentation/reciepts on the engine/tranny builds?
All in all it doesn't sound too bad..
 
Hes a friend of mine. I drove it around and it feels real good really picks up. He wants money since he has none. You know got into DSM with out saving a little more. He has receipts for everything. He drove it first then let me drive it which kinda worried me though not sure. But can you fix the head liner and how do you do that?
 
Yeah, you can try to stretch out the headliner depending on the severity, or you can buy a new one(they're really cheap, autozone). All you have to do is take the trim off around it, just look haha. What's it boost too on the gauge? does it smoke or smell heavy of gas? I'd ask him to do a compression test, and boost leak test.. And I'd make sure about those reciepts of the engine and tranny, see if it's a reputable shop.. any strange noises?
 
so I'm looking at a 98 gsx for sale, 87k on it, its a fixer upper. just needs alittle love. I offered 2k for it and the guy will take it. He said he paid 4500 for it. I plan on rebuilding the engine and making it into a nice ride. Should I go for it?
The only thing i can see wrong with it is the front passenger fender is cracked. nothing big. and a few paint spots missing. Not a big deal to me either. I plan on sanding it down and painting it a blue color.
what you guys think?
 
I would defintely upgrade the injectors before you start driving the car though. 550's are not even close to being able to handle a td06 20g. You are really looking at a minimum of 650's if you want more than 10lbs of boost and want to keep it together. But overall it appears to be a nice car. Good luck and have fun.
 
Heres the deal: I have a mildly modified 90 gst with a blown motor. This was the last straw, Im done with this car, and DSM;s altogether. So I'm gonna sell some things but I have no idea how much nay of this stuff can go for..So here it is:

Ported 2nd gen mani flanged for external w/g
hks external w/g with open dump tube
2.5" o2 sensor housing
3" rnr (i believe) d/p (uninstalled)
3" high flow cat (uninstalled)
apexi safcII and autometer boost gauge (in the vent gauge pod thing..it holds both the afc and boost gauge)
greddy turbo timer
act 2600 with 10 miles on it


any input you could give me on fair prices would be greatly appreciated!
 
Go look through the classifieds and find what others priced similar items that you want to sell, and price them the same of a couple bucks under to get that competitive sellers edge, but in the end it all comes down to what someone is willing to pay for them.

Ok, my 90 tsi is knocking, My first question is will a 91 galant vr-4 motor and tranny bolt right in to my 90 tsi? Will all my wiring hook up? and second i can get the galant for $1500 with a rebuilt motor and tranny w/ 30k miles, 3-bolt rear end, driveshaft, (no turbo, exhaust or intercooler) car has complete leather interior, but has some small repairable damage to drivers rear, I dont care about the damage, I am wanting to know if i should get this and is their any interest in a vr-4 roller? Would it be hard to sell? All i need is the motor/trans
 
1500''s a decent deal Apart from the motor and trans you could might be able to make 500 out of everything else.
The motor will bolt into yours.
JDM motors are from Galants. You could pick up a JDM motor/trans w/30k miles for cheaper(1,000-1300)
Few more options: Karking, sells fresh rebuilt longblocks for 1100, SBR sells shortblocks for i think 1250.

If i we're you I'd probably buy the galant, depending how good of condition it truely is in. Either quickly flip it and make 500+ again depending on its condition. Or take the engine and part out the rest.
 
i dont see a motor/trand on there for 1500, I think ima hold out on getting the vr-4 cause it will drain my bank account.

I was a bit off on some of the pricing, as I was in the market for an engine a couple months ago, and I really didnt spend a whole lot of time and look what I came up with?
You'll need to verify if you choose one of those that it will indeed fit into your car, and that the JDM trans will as well.
And of course, calculate shipping into all of that.. But if you really wanted to you can find what you want at the price you want. I saw a JDM engine sell a couple weeks ago for 500some dollars in an auction.

More Ideas: Check out local sites for dsmtuners, you might be able to find something else around you, you can pick up.
Also check out junkyards, you might be able to find an eclipse thats been side bashed or rear ended with a decent engine.

Curious though, if money is an issue, why do you want a transmission? It'd save you a couple hundred bucks if there's nothing wrong with yours..
 
alright, ive been looking everywhere for a decent awd dsm and i may have found one.
Heres the deal, the car has a few scratches and dings which i am not very concerend about, the body has no rot at all. Runs very nice but has an odd sound that seems to be coming from the timing belt/gears area, that sounds like rubbing noises. Head was redone 6 years ago becasue of the t belt snapping, has all papers. Milage 137k. its a 1990 awd tsi 5 speed. Only BIG deal with this car is it feels like its being held back, as if the e brake is on but i dont belive it is. I am a little concerned about the T Case, could it make the car feel like its dragging, i mean a very very strong drag, like as if the brakes are on. The guy wants 1500 for it. If the tcase is bad, whats the car worth and how hard is it to fix? will the dealer do it since its a recall?
