at most 1300 considering you dont know what you are getting yourself into with the transmission. Other than that seems like a good deal for a DD.

the 14b snail is fine, no shaft play ummmm as for tranny im sure its the stock tranny so im guessing it might have a ton of mileage or it might be the full swap. il find out. i dont really plan on building it. just get it to drive to work, school and back. im just scared to buy it and have issues and end up dumping more cash into it then i need to.

(THIS IS JUST MY OPINION)

i personally would not take it because its auto, and i wouldnt want to go through the trouble of doing a trans swap.

every auto i've ever driven just bored me to death, and ive driven some...and they are slower, and heavier. and theres like a 3 second delay between the time when you floor it, and the car actually shifts to the right gear. :notgood:

but thats MY OPINION, if you dont mind the fact that its auto, go for it man.

but try asking him 1100$ :thumb:

Then you are driving the wrong type of car, my auto responds instantly and with my minor amount of mods I have enough trouble with traction that the heavier/more power consuming transmission (which is negligible anyways on a modified car) isn't an issue. I have noticed that my left foot does get a little bit fidgety when I drive my Eclipse after a long period of driving my Jeep but oh well.

I've never understood the bias that people have against autos, IMO both for racing and for off-roading (not at issue in this thread but mentionable anyways) a modified/built auto is a way better transmission. For these cars especially when all you really need for a built auto is some valve body work and new end clutches it seems to be a great choice.

WTF what did you do to it ? because stock they only have 73hp at the crank. so figure 65whp

just because of this .if the car is decent id say $1,600 maybe more . but my bro has a 1.8 dsm and its so slow ....so what did you do :)

the car is actually has 92HP stock at crank or wheels i dont remember., its a different 4G single cam that has the 65WHP i dont remember what one.

but i did a little messsing around with the cam, valves, lifters. and plus some other things ;)

there are more details about it in the Dyno section
under "4G37 Dyno Results (I WAS SHOCKED!)"

thats pretty cool.....but you cant view the dyno section by engine ?

I'm new to DSM's. This guy contacted me about his 91 AWD tsi. He said it has no motor, tranny, tanscase, or front axles. He wanted $400, said he needs to know soon because he is going to strip it for parts if I don't buy it. I want an AWD 1g eclipse/talon/laser, but I want a project I can work on for awhile, not just replace a head gasket and be on my way. I'm thinking of offering him $200 for it.

Is it worth it/fair?

awesome thanks guys, I got $400 to offer but obviously I'm gonna low ball. I'll let you know how it goes!

He hasn't started parting it yet and is emailing me pictures tomorrow morning :hellyeah:

The only issue I'm having now is that he is about 90 miles away and I would need to get it to my house with no front axles.... any suggestions?

as long as the rear end is there change the fluid and get a tow dolly from u-haul

You dont need axels to make it a roller as long as the hub assemblies are still there just bolt the wheels on and go i've done it with at least 20 parts cars assuming you have a way to haul it that is.

oh really? I guess I'll be able to figure out more when I see the pictures. I was just kind of worried thinking I'd have to strap it down to a tow dolly and then worry about it bouncing and messing it up.

well just in case there are no hub assemblies, would it hurt it to strap it to a dolley (as far as bouncing and bumps along the way) or would it be fine?

If there were no hubs, then there would be no wheels, making it a non rolling chassis. How would you even get it on the dolly? I wouldn't tow it if it didn't have wheels, and it being awd, i would get a flatbed or trailer.

l it has no front axles, so I'm assuming there are wheels on the back. So it would have to be lifted and pushed on and off the dolly, which to me is way too much work. I wanted to get the trailer anyway to get the whole thing off the ground, I guess only time will tell when I get the pictures tomorrow... I'm really hoping for front hubs/wheels.

Just out of curiosity, say there are front hubs but no wheels, could I put 2 wheels from my 3g eclipse on there just for the sake of putting it on the trailer? I think the 3g bolt patter is 5x114.3 not sure on the talon but I think it's the same.

Hold on, im lost. Are there hubs with no axles or the front totally striped

honestly I don't know yet. I forgot to ask him about hubs when I called and his email just said no front axles. But he may just mean the front is stripped. I won't know for sure until I get the pictures tomorrow. If there are hubs, then it's no issue. Let's just assume the worst of things and say the front is stripped though. That way I can figure out my worst case scenario.
