I'd say 3k and go from there. It's def. worth 3500 just in mods alone but you might want to check the crank for shaft play (crankwalk) which is usually RARE but I'd still check. Towers look mint so that's a plus. Also, it comes with a lot of extras that you could either part out or install which is a huge plus. Either than that, check for common things like leaks and rust. I'd definitely make sure there is no water being collected in the rear hatch as that is common as well. Good luck and let tuners know how it went (if it happens).

+1 :thumb:

Do you guys think that 3,000 would sound like a reasonable offer? And do you think the paint and scratches are a big issue?

Yeah, I would try for 3,000. The paint de-lamination is a common thing on these cars, or really 14 year old cars in general.

Ok. What should I be looking for when I go look at the car and test drive it? With the aftermarket gauges is there anything else I should be looking at when running the car?

More importantly check to see how they kept up with maintenance. Ask about timing belts, all fluids, the clutch(does it slip), etc. Look for oil leaks, or even oil residue, check the oil, take off the oil cap and look at the color(it sometimes tells a lot). Just look EVERYWHERE, and speculate EVERYTHING. The crankwalk is more of a one in a million issue. Also look for pulls while you drive it, and difference in tire threads.

Yeah, maintenance is the big thing. If they have a record of timing belt, waterpump, etc. that would be a plus. Check all the fluids for proper levels/color as this can be a good indicator on how well they kept up with things. Make sure there are no leaks, it shifts well, there is no smoke during idle as well as during pulls, etc.

very worth it. hell i dont like 2g cars but i would buy it.

to fix the paint just razerblade the powder clear off and then buff/polish ,ive did it to many times LOL

but try 3k if he wont say 3250 ,

Paint is the last thing you need to worry about. As stated and as I forgot, you should definitely ask about the water pump/oil pump and the timing belt. Like mentioned, ask to see a list of maintenance (pcv, fuel filter, misc. gaskets) if available or maybe he could shed some light on that aspect. Make sure that there are no leaks again and I forgot to add if he has a spark plug cover ask to take it off to check if oil has leaked into the well. Generally this is a common problem solved with a new oil cap as the gaskets can go bad. I can't remember but IIRC the 2g cap is better than the 1g.

Ok. There is also another 95 Talon Tsi AWD in my area for sale. This one has 98,000 miles and is stock. They want 5,000 for it. Do you think I should look into that one instead?

First of all whoever said check for crankwalk, how can you check for one? Its not like you can just look at it and decide if it has one!!! If the car has crankwalked you are not going to be able to drive it, plus its a 6 bolt, so i would say that is not a way to check that unless the car is not drivable at all. Just test drive it, look for oil leaks, smoke coming out of the exhaust. To me the car looks solid, but i would still offer $2700 and go up from there.

That is false. I drove my tsi for a while before I actually checked the crank for play. The crank had 1/8" of play in it and it still ran.

definately a good find and at a good price for a modded awd 2g, i agree with everyone on checking fluid levels and colors, also if posible before it gets warmed up pop radiator cap then start it and check for bubbles for a sign of a busted head gasket in case he over boosted it and is trying to get rid of it before it worsens,
most importantly when you go to check it out keep your cool and don't get all gitty about how its fast, take it easy and focus on looking it over, how you act around the car in person can influence how much he'll settle for, for example if your stoked like "o its so cool i gotta have it! he'll want 3500" but if you keep your cool you could get it for less.... all in all have fun and good luck:thumb:

Seems like a reasonable price. That's how much I would sell my daily 95 GSX with a bit more miles, but better paint, but closer to stock. But since mine is an "eclipse" its always due to be more expensive haha. bring on the flames talon owners. :p

Hey I just picked it up today. The body needs some paint and a new front bumper and I could use some new wheels/tires. The interior is in really good shape, just a quick little shampoo of everything should make it look better (though I plan to just rip it out and put in new) I'll put some pictures up tomorrow when it's daylight.

Just curious but did he mention anything about the car coming with an ecu if it does you have even more of a steal. If it comes with an eprom your even in more luck

And hell yeah it has the ecu/harness and he said he is pretty sure it has an eprom but he isn't positive. (haven't had time to check myself) Plus it has cross drilled/ slotted rotors all the way around and a new adjustable front suspension. Also, all the wires and hoses in the engine bay are ready to hook up, nothing cut or anything. The only issue I can see me having is it was an automatic so I'm gonna need to run cables and whatnot, but that shouldn't be too bad.

Awesome, I've wanted a GSX or TSi for so long, it seems almost unreal that I actually have one now and how well it seems to have worked out. I'm already on the hunt for parts, though cash is a little lacking. I'm sure I'll be up early tomorrow to start tinkering around with it so I'll get you guys some pics.

What would you expect to pay for a 1994 eagle talon TSI AWD, clean title, glossy paint, 5 speed, immaculate interior, 100% stock, 150k miles, but 2nd gear grinds, and it has a hard time idling. I picked one up 2 days ago for practically nothing, and i just wanted to know what you guys paid for your DSM's?:hellyeah:
