I've been looking for a nice (and Cheap) Gst and i think i've found one! there is one small problem... It has a Blown Head Gasket. I went and looked at it and it looks Great and has only 81k original miles. I think it woulf be great and it's 2500$ so what do you guys think. It would be a nice upgrade from my 97 rs.

I have found a 1997 Eclipse GST for cheap but it needs work and I would like to know what you think. Here are some pictures, his description, and some emails.

Description:

This car originally belonged to a really close friend of mine who moved far away and gave me the car. The only reason I am selling it is to pay for school. It's a fun and fast car. It does need some work on the bottom end of the motor, the rod barings need to be replaced. The car is like I said a 97 Mitsubishi eclipse GST. it has a G16 turbo on it, greddy blow off valve, hks intake, apexi N1 exhaust, autometer boost pressure, EGT, and true widband pillar gauges, B&M short throw shifter and shift knob, kyb 6 way adjustable shocks and struts along with kyb springs. front and rear strut tower bars, RC 550 fuel injectors (not installed) walbrow fuel pump (not installed), apexi turbo timer, apexi SAFC (not installed) apexi boost controller (not installed), the head was recently pulled off and gone thru by APR in Redding ca and has a new copper or alum head gasket, it has pretty white gauge inserts, euro style tail lights and rounded headlights. the buyer will be responsible for the smog and reqistration (I did catch up the dmv few a few months ago tho) if they want to drive it on the street, we where building it for the track, buyer will need to pick it up from my parents house as well*UPDATE i will trailor it within a reasonable distance** email for more info*. Any and all questions please email me and I will be happy to answer them for you. I'm sad to have to sell this car but its time for it to find someone who will finish it up. any and all questions feel free to email me and i will be happy to answer all questions ASAP for you. alot is negotiable like i said i need to pay for school.

i called the guy and he said it hasnt been registered for two years and the he doesnt have a pink slip for it.

how much is he asking for it? that is the important question. seems like a clean ride... but isn't worth a whole lot.

Wanting to know some other dsmer opinions.

98 GSX, White exterior, slight chipping on front bumper.
Leather interior, no rips in seats, looked in pretty good shape.
All stock, automatic.

Supposedly just had a "new transmission $3000",
Dont know about the engine for sure, haven't had a chance to really look at it.

This would be my wife's car , I've already looked at kbb.com and stuff, but just wondering your guy's thoughts on the price to pay. Has some other punitive stuff, good and bad, not worth listing. The guy is one of those 4 car, corner lot dealer types, so not really a retail price. I don't 'have' to have it or anything and would only take it if it was a good deal...also it would be just me stroking a check for it.

Thanks.

its sound like a good deal for a gsx, i payed 6k for my 97gst with 50k on it back on 07, but ill take a look at the motor first.

Sorry maybe I was a little misleading, he said the tranny cost $3000, he is asking $6000 for the car, if he was asking $3000, it would be in the driveway. LOL

So anyways, what would you pay for it, obviously less than $6000, I was thinking around $4000-$4300?

Any more info? Miles, maintenance, link to pics, etc. Either way, its a buyers market. I wouldn't go anywhere near 6 unless it was mint.

LOL yeah check it first and see how much miles on it, how it drives, 4k or 5k if the car is mint with under 100k on it its still a good deal,
goodluck

Sorry, thought I put it in there, 103k on the clock. I will check out all the maintenance when I go look at it. I wouldn't go as far as saying mint, but it is in really decent shape. But yes buyers market, and I think cash says a lot more than,..well maybe if I get a loan, and well it kinda depends... IDK, I'll see tomorrow when I talk to him.

I picked my 95 gsx up about three years ago with 73k on the clock for about 5k, different years but still a good reference.

I bought my 95 tsi awd auto for $500.00 it needed a transfer case and PAINT in a baaaad way. If I spend a few thousand on a paint job itd still be a good deal. Car had 103k good maintenance records 2 owner

I think 6,000 a little high. I got my 95 awd for 4000 with 100,000 miles. I'd offer him 3,000 and if he doesnt like it walk away and find another one.

you got a sweet deal rush.

Off topic question for Rush2252, but how are you a new member/ lurker and you have all of those posts???

In PA the automatics sell for about $2000 less than manuals. I don't know how rare GSX are up there. I would say $6000 is too much for an automatic down here. $3500 to $4000 would be fair down here. Remembering prices are location based.

If he balks at your offer just wait a month or two until he realized he put too much money into it and wants to get rid of it.

Yeah 6,000 is too much for an auto gsx. I'd say 4000-4500 is pretty good for a 97 GSX with 103k. No more.

there is a white auto gsx with 36k on craigslist for 6k

Thats a more reasonable price since its only got 36k on it. But when it comes to auto dsms they cost less then manual. Then theres cars that cost more if their auto then if their manual, for example a BMW.

Well I was just wondering what you guys on here think about this car, would it be worth fixing? Engine swap?

Yeah, they do make great daily drivers! I had a '94 Laser 1.8, and for a SOHC naturally-aspirated motor, it was a surprisingly quick little car. Wish I still had it, it got beat on so much when I was in college.... it ran great through all that, though. If the price is right, snag it! And they get great gas mileage too.
