+1 on the first one. Nothing better than a clean low mileage car. Idk who said its an ebay lovers but to each his own. Its clean period. The owner posted $6900 rule of thumb if youve bought or sold cars you usually post them around $1000 higher than what your needing. This gives room for bartering or if somebody really wants it theyll jump on that price and your 1k richer.

My advice shoot him 5900 or 6k. Your still not hurting at that price. There are cheaper cars out there that need work. Mine I paid 500 it needs paint and Ive put alot of time and a little money in it.

Remember two things. DSMs can be found at cheap prices and number 2 your going to be working on them quite a bit the less you spend initially could mean a positive or negative in the future depending on what kind of shape its in. If you buy that second for more than 2k your insane. It has been fubared and thats not and opinion thats fact!

I would wait around for something with less done to it. Last thing you want is someone elses headaches because they decided to mod the car and did it wrong.

clean.. sure you can make any car clean. he is venting his bov, using an ebay clutch... running ebay parts. hmm.. budget build... probably a budget tune... whether he beat on the car or not isn't what matters. 6k for that car is too much money. even if he had all HIGH QUALITY parts it is worth less than 6k.

I understand selling cars and how it goes, I also understand modifying cars and running them hard, and how that goes.

Buy a car that is properly and tastefully modded. or buy a stock car. NO REASON to be paying 6k for a FWD 96 talon that was cheaply modified. F(_)CK THAT. if it was AWD it might be worth closer to 6k, but still no... but, there are better cars out there to be had.

The first one definitely looks clean. I plan on looking at it tomorrow. Any other things I should look for on a used TSi?

96 Talon TSi / Eclipse GST - 600HP Capable Car! at 7,000? WTF?
The body looks nice, but the engine seems to be hurting. I looks like all he did was upgrade the intake and turbo.
But the first one looks good all around, just see what you can do on getting that price lower.

I would like to get AWD, just carries a big price premium. I had an 03 WRX that I wish I didnt have to sell a few years ago. AWD is a lot of fun

Awd have somewhat of a premium but there not that hard to find i find them on craigslist all the time 1gs and 2gs anywhere from 1500 to 3000 running and driveable and ifyour willing to do some work they can be found needing work a lot cheaper all depends on how hard you look and if your wiiling to do some work in my experience ive found ones with bodykits and anythhing that looks fast and furious has had he sh!t beat outa it andi dont even waste my time ive owned both -over 50 dsms and now i stick with the awds

I can't help but wonder why someone would stick a 1G steering wheel in a 2G, you lose the airbag, but what's the point to that

Keep waiting. For that price you can get a GSX. I personally have a GST Spyder. Mine was fairly modded when i purchased it. I got it cheap. Clean mods, low miles and interior. The guy blew the head gasket and didnt' want to take it to the dealer again. I didn't mind doing the work myself and get a chance to look at the inside of the motor.

Car is now my wifes daily driver.

WTF Is it me or is everybody on here a bunch of know nothings on cars?

if he offers 6k that is not too much. Its a 2g with 91k original miles. Clean as a whistle under the hood and paint. As a matter of fact its cleaner and less riced than half the members making comments on here mine included. I would like for each of you to dig up receipts and man hours and figure up a total on your car. I dont even want to think about mine LOL it makes me sick.

Figure this the paint job alone these days is worth 3-4k

I would consider that car unmodified to be around the 5k range. Look it up on kbb.com The modifications he has done arent "ebay" mods either. Name brand parts. At 91k looking like that it would be hard to justify the car has been beaten on.

Ive seen people buy cars way worse than that for 3k and dump twice that into them. IMO a car that looks good and needs some "tuning" is a step up from one that runs good and needs paint/work. This is coming from ME a person who has flipped several cars and unless you can DIY the paint job thats going to be the biggest chunk of change. As long as the wiring isnt hacked all to hell and the car drives good Id offer him 6k IF you can afford it.

Spotting ricey shit isnt hard. Just look for anything that isnt factory or looks to be ductaped/ziptied together.

The list of mods are worth at least 1.5-2k has anybody priced the manifold or BIG 16g on the car?

manifold $300
BIG 16g $350- $500
Wheels and tires $600-$800
FMIC $250-$500
Catback $250-$300
you get the point......

To each his own but if you can get the car for around 5800 - 6000 your not hurting at all.

My .02

thanks for the input everyone. i will see how it goes tomorrow! you can always tell alot about a car just by the way it drives. we will see

Just thought i would throw in my $.02. I purchased my car a few years ago. 95 talon tsi fwd with fully built motor with evo3 and all supporting mods. basically every thing done you could imagin. they guy gave me every recipt for everything that was ever done to the car including oil changes. there was about 14g's put into the car when i bought it for 6 grand "I also live in ny where things tend to be more expensive". I thought at the time i got a good deal. which i sill think i did ok. BUT, within the first year i had to replace the cutch, the turbo "which then required new injectors, piping ect.... all said and done "plus some other parts i wanted "meth kit ect. i've already dumped another 5-6 g into sense buying. for me i didn't mind because i bought the car as a summer toy,not my D.D. and planned on modding it more. realizing i would never be able to sell it for what i was putting into it and planed on keeping it for the long run.
so i guess what i'm getting at is: if you have the money and do not plan on selling the car sure 6g is "fair" although i would try to talk them down" remember 6g for a 10 year old heavely modded car is pricey and only a targeted buyer is going to be interested. he's prob going to be stuck trying to sell it for a long time or take less to move it" I'd offer 4900 and see where it goes from there.
I also agree with everyone else about the second car. i would walk away from it!

Bottom line is that dsms are a dime a dozen, it's fwd and it's modded, which takes a lot of fun away from doing it yourself. Don't get me wrong it's. Very clean and I'd drive it, but in reality all it has are some nice wheels and a good paint job. It's still a sweet car nevertheless but you asked for opinions and you've heard what we have to say, let us know what you decide.

The black TSI is venting to atmosphere. :nono:

But the second one, I have seen for sale on here. It looks kind of riced out, but it also looks beastly. Whatever you want man.

The first one is very clean, that one gets my vote and for 6900, you could probably talk him down to about $6000.

Your going to miss all the fun of actually making sure things were done right and not half arsed.

Your going to miss all the fun of actually making sure things were done right and not half arsed.

EXACTLY!

Because your dsm will mess up from time to time, and when it does, you'll usually know what's wrong if you did all the work yourself, but if it's already modded and you don't know how to work on your car, then it's going to mess up and you'll be like, " " .

The guy with the cool car who can't work on it. :notgood:

Walk away from that second one man. I think the first one is a good buy just talk him down to like 5900 and see what happens.

True true.

BUT there was a red 95 GSX for sale in Grove City. I was desperately trying to sell my car and buy that one only because they wanted $3800 for it. Running and all maintenance up to date :thumb:

If you want to take a drive, come out to Grove City & Columbus campus area. There are tons of 2gs running around and I'm sure if you had 4 grand... they wouldn't turn you down. Cash makes the world go round. Let me know, I think I still have the number to those people for the GSX, they were older folks too. Only 133,000 miles on it.

I recently bought a bone stock 95 awd tsi with 120k on it for 3500, I took my time looking and I always passed on the heavily modded cars, I did not want someone else's headache and its much more rewarding to be able to see and feel the difference of your car after you have made your own changes.

that being said if "you" like whats already been done to the car and it feels like a good deal, go for it :)

ps. that first one looks well taken care of

IMHO I think that the price is a bit much. I read some people saying that the parts alone would add up to at least that price and probably more but upgraded cars don't hold their value by cost of the parts put in it. I was able to find a 90 GSX in mint condition with minor upgrades (EBC, larger UICP, and a few other smaller upgrades) for 2800. Granted it's almost 20 years old, it only had 56,000 original miles on it. If you look around and patiently wait, you'll find some good deals. Try looking at papers vs. EBAY, people on EBAY generally know they can get a bit more than these cars are worth because there is a market for them. I say wait
