ask to see some machine shop reciepts. .050 over sounds odd, usually it's .020 or .040. Our blocks won't safely handle much more of an overbore than that. If he really bought all this stuff and built the engine there will be some record of ti ...wether he has it or the machine Shop has it,...it's on record

I think some thing's fishy and you're about to buy some one else's problem child... as for leaving the front balance shaft it..that's fine, just cut the belt and leave the pulleys on.. then remove the back one by either replacing it with a mirage stub shaft or cut the factory oil pump balance shaft off right behind the pump back side (leave a 1/4 inc or so sticking out so you can grip it in a vice to properly torque the oil pump bolts)

i have a 90 gsx that besides paint everything motor/trand/wheels/rims/ has been replaced in last month..trans is my pride bc erick and jon ripple did it for me..i tried to keep the car stock and never messed with the boost or anything else. It has no rust but needs paint. My question is................

i guy 2 hrs away wants to trade me for a 95 rs that has the 420a..but he said they changed the internals and lowered compression for turbo.cam'ed it and put bigger injectors.car is mint inside and out and has 18's under it.currently its a n/t...comes with a 14b turbo thou separte. I read all the 420a forum and it seems this is a hard motor to turbo.

i like to be off the beaten path and think the rs would be that but i'm giving up awd for fwd.

what do you guys think about that trade?...is there a ay to tell if they lowered compression...i heard it run and its defiantly cam'd out.

Not really a way to tell if it's had lower compression pistons installed unless you take it apart and compare part numbers. He should have reciepts for any work done. But why trade a 4g63T for a 420A? AWD for FWD? If you'd prefer the way the 2g looks over the 1g, then I'd say go ahead and get the RS. But trading a GSX for an RS is crazy. If you're interested in a 2g then let me know :p

i wouldn't get rid of an AWD for a FWD anyway... i dont' ave how beat up my AWD was and how nice the gs-t was (unless i could sell it for enough to build a newer, badder GSX :D

:) No, it's not 20 years old:

Paint your car instead of trading.

Why would you even consider? I think instead of swapping cars, tell the guy you will swap badges with him. You will give him your GSX badge, and he can give you an RS sticker.
GSX aren't exactly "common"
the 420a just does not the have the same potential no matter how much he lowered the compression, or cammed it up.

simply, don't do it.

If you love the 2g style, You could probably find someone with a 2g gst to trade you, might have to throw in some cash though.

Seems too good to be true. If nothing else you could part it out and probably get your moneys worth. See what receipts he has for the work done on it.

Keep your GSX 1Ga's are really nice plus it's AWD. I think you'll have tons of problems with that RS. The ECU doesn't know how to work with those lower compression pistons, plus you'll have a hell of a time turboing the car, I'm willing to bet that the RS doesn't even run right now. Keep your GSX and paint it. You'll have a lot more fun with that car, and less troubles. You'll most likely end up fixing everything that the previous owner did wrong when they pulled the engine.

Personally I would stick with the 90gsx. Due to several reason.
1. Turbo AWD
2. You see less 1g's around the 2g's
3. You have already replaced a bunch of part and put a good amount of money into maintaining it. Thus its set for a long time.
4. You will probably have to spend a good amount of money on RS if you get it.

Im in the same boat. My 90 Tsi needs a new paint job, BUT im looking forward to making it look like new again.

I agree. All this for $1200? Unless hes a real nice friend. That .50 bore sounds off too, def. ask for him for reciepts or paper work to prove this is true. You can also tell if its a 6 bolt by looking at the oil pan. V-faq has a write up.

Why would you even entertain the idea of buying the GS? Is the GST stock or does it have mods. Tell us the goods and the bads.
