Ok well if your going to stick with a 7 bolt the swap is very straight foward so it shouldn't be to hard on you guys. Just make sure you label everything and bag it up.

If it has a cracked block, it probably shot a rod threw the block. Chances are the crank is fubarred too. I did the same thing to my engine 2 years ago but built a 6 bolt from the ground up.

You probably don't need a entire engine. A long block would be easier but you could also get a short block and rebuild the current head.

If you're asking us if you are able to do it, chances are you probably can't without making several threads on what's what, or why it's not starting, etc etc. I've been working on my car for over a year now and am always on this site. I still don't think I can do a swap mainly cause I'm ill-equipped. Tools are expensive.

There are some tools that you will either have to buy, or pay your mechanic through your a** for him to use his own.

*. Hayne's Manual (Chilton's)
1. PB blaster
2. Good socket set. Metric 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, 22mm, 32mm covers most bolts. The 32mm is for the wheel nut. Get regular and deep well. Also need wrenches in these sizes.
3. Decent torque wrench.
4. 1/2" Breaker bar
5. Optional Air compressor, 1/2" impact wrench, and impact sockets. It makes some of your work a whole lot easier. The breaker bar, PB blaster, and some elbow grease can be used as a replacement.

You'll end up buying more as you go for those specialty jobs.

Too bad Christmas just passed, huh...

I just bought a 98 Eclipse RS and have been working on it at night. I put two hours a night in and have only been working on it for a week. I have the entire engine disassembled, marked, bagged and tagged. I have the luxury of having nice storage lockers in the garage, so I keep the radiator and radiator bolts stored together on one shelf, head and head bolts on another and so on and so on. This is my first post because I do a lot of research and a lot of reading on this site and others. What you don't have in tools you can usually rent or borrow.

Hey I'm in Rochester too, and I'm also 19. This shouldn't be a problem if you've got the tools, and I would help you out if I wasn't going back to school tomorrow, but let me know if you need anything.
I've never had anyone around to help me figure things out, hopefully it comes easy for you as well. I've got four 4g63s in my garage right now.

What tools do you have or have access to? There aren't a whole lot of specialty tools required that I can think of, especially if you just doing a straight swap. Definitely going to need an engine hoist, engine stand, torque wrench and mabe a wheel hub nut socket. I don't know if you need to remove the front shafts on a fwd or not. (I'm awd) Other than that you should be fine with a 1/2 in. breaker bar, 1/2 in. and 3/8 in. ratchet/socket set, and wrench sets. And keep in mind that you need metric sets.

The fully built 6 bolt that I assembled for my gsx was the first car engine I ever built and installed.

Do you have another car to drive until you get this one done? Even for you 1st time it shouldn't take months.

And by the way the Chilton's manual is way more informative than the Hayes manual.

its relatively simple... disconnect all the plugs from the harness and keep everything labeled to make life much easier when putting the new engine back in. unbolt the 4 motor mounts, and yank that biznatchhh out!

I bought a lot of my tools from pawn shops! They get a lot of new stuff when school semesters change. I always go the week before hunting season opens. People seem to get in a bind and need money for school, guns or just cash. I found a ton of Snap-On and Craftsman brand tools for $60 per set. Keep looking and read a lot of forums and you will be successful.

yea i have my gsx that i can drive and my family has tons of cars (7) LOL. there are 6 of us and we all drive so that should be no problem. I have everything except the engine hoist, engine stand, torque wrench. I plan on purchasing the car at the end of winter when i sell my other car and use that money for car and parts.

I just bought a new engine stand for $66 at Advance Auto Parts. They had a special on-line and when I went to the store it was $80. I told the attendant the on line price and they marked it down to the on line price. I borrowed a cherry picker from a friend that builds old muscle cars and he let me use it over the weekend. I have every thing off and away from the engine and only the front and rear mounts are holding it in. It should only take a few minutes to have it on the stand.

1990 Eagle Talon TSI (AWD Turbo)

has anyone seen this car anywhere other than craigs list? Im having a very hard time contacting through the Craigs list BS, so I rather see if someone has seen this person on the forums selling somewhere, let me know if you find a better link or something, I have a very serious buyer that is looking for a 1g! thanks alot

It looks like a clean car. The price seems a little low though. I would try and go look at it in person and test drive it if possible.
