You have to ask yourself, if it's such a great car, why are they selling it? Also, what do you plan to do with car once you get it? In the end though, if it were me, I would pass on this one.:talon:

Well my friend finally settled on a price for his 95 Talon TSi FWD. He wants 4k for it, and it has 150XXX miles. The only goods he is gonna leave on it is a Borla muffler, and a set of 17s come with it as well as the stock wheels installed.

Mechanical:
It has most of the maintenance stuff done. Timing belt, plugs, wires, dizzy, and all that stuff (it was f'ed when he got it) as well as clutch, shocks, and a few other things I dont remember. He is about to replace the bottom end pulley next week.
I am not sure, but I think it has larger injectors, and maybe an MBC. He got a GSX, and is switching all the performance stuff over to the GSX, but I dont know if he is leaving the injectors and MBC on.

Body:
The top has typical paint issues with it fading and its peeling a bit on the trim around the door, and the driver's front fender has egg on it. There is also a little dent on the passenger front fender. It has the center section of an Eclipse lo-deck spoiler, but no side pieces. The body has been modified to accept an FMIC, but the FMIC is coming off to go on the GSX.

Interior:
I think it has grey leather, it is not torn, but it is faded. It has all interior trim pieces, and stock stereo. The sun roof works. The windows and locks work. It does have the annoying DSM door rattle when the door is shut to hard.

I can get pics soon, so I will post them up when possible.

So what should I offer for it?

Tell him to keep the muffler - it will be thrown out when you buy a full 3" exhaust ;) If you don't like the wheels, tell him to keep a set and use that as a negotiating point to lower the price.

You can make your own mbc for $10-$15 so it doesn't matter if he includes it or not. If he had bigger injectors on it, he had to have some form of engine management to compensate for them - maybe an safc? Tell him to put the stockers back on for you. If you try to run bigger injectors with no engine management you will run really rich and the car won't run properly. The window rattle can be fixed pretty easily; I think there is a how-to in the tech article section.

So it's missing some body pieces, paints fading, high mileage, fwd, faded interior, and for the most part stock. I would say offer him $2k.

Good luck!

Well the thing is that I am really good friends with him, so I dont wanna low ball him on a price. The paint flaws and the dent dont really bother me much, just something that makes it closer to a sleeper. The set of 17s that he has extra have a dent or something in on of them, which is why he does not have them on. I think that the Borla was the start of a 3" exhaust, but he got the GSX and hasnt really done much with the Talon. As for the injectors, I am not POSITIVE that it has bigger injectors, I heard him talking with someone about getting the bigger injectors.

Thanks for everyone who answered me, I wasnt going to pay 10k for it. I want it I was just going to use this to maybe get him to drop on the price.

Thanks again

Is it at a dealer or from private buyer , I paid 3100 for my TSI with double the amount of miles but with alot of mods already done. I would say probably around 6.5-7.5k would in the ball park.I would definetly take the advise of the others and look it up on KBB.com

That talon fwd with that high mileage is worth about 3500 MAX. I live in the DC area where stuff is always more expensive. I got my 95 talon tsi awd with 120k for $2k and the body on the car is perfect but the car needed minimal work (radiator flush and proper mbc). Don't get ripped off.

It is being sold by one of my best friends, so I think I am going to wait and see if anyone gives him any serious offers, and after awhile I might offer him something. I turn 17 in March, and that is when my parents said I can get a loan, so I might offer 3200 or something, and put 500 down to him and make up a payment plan deal.

ok i have a buddy that bought a 99 eclipse gs for $1200. it has intake and exhaust and body kit neons and lots of interior work. the cars body is in bad shape, the motor had a hole in the filter and sucked up lots of gunk, hed sell it to me for $700 it runs as it but motor will probly go bad soon. i curently own a 02 rsx type s ik a decent amount about cars and DSM's and i was wondering if it would be worth getting and droping a new 420a into and redoing body and such?? would make a show car outa it? the body kits is junk and the car has been beat on quite a bit? you opinions ill post pics if i can get some

If you want looks then ya it sounds like a good idea. But if you`re into speed and fon then hold out for a true dsm. my buddy bought a `97 gs not knowing anything about it. He eventually sold it for $3500 and picked up a `95 gs-t for about $2000. And everyone I've ever known that had a 420a car wished that they had bought a 4g63 car. just my 2 cents.

Don't do it, 420a is a waste of time. Just wait until you find a good deal on a gsx. Then you'll have a decent drive train platform and a DOHC motor. SOHC and FWD are BOTH wastes of time. Sorry I know your rsx is FWD but its just my opinion.

Get your facts straight.. 420a is a DOHC motor...
