And yes, it is a 5-speed.

Well if it is AWD/turbo/5spd ... buy it for the 3grand.. You will be able to get it fixed for much cheaper than 8-9 grand. Plus if you do the work yourself, its a great learning experience LOL. Anyways, it sounds like its not that major. If it was idling then i doubt it did to much damage. There is not much strain on the motor at idle. So buy it for 3 and build it up, and dont listen to the big muscle man. Build that 2.0 Turbo up and beat his muscle down :)

I would never spend 8-9k for a stock awd. For reference, my repainted, freshly swapped 7 bolt, completely stock talon was had for 5700. Obviously she's not stock anymore, though. :)

I would offer 2500 and then you've got yourself a good deal, seeing as how you immediately know it is at least a new head job away from running (who knows how the pistons look).

So a teacher of mine was parked one morning about 2 weeks ago in front of the atm machine and she left her 98 awd tsi running and she heard something break, well she couldn't start it after and had it towed to a garage. We talk about her car alot and she told me the day it happened in school and she was considering selling after this. Well long story short I come back from christmas break and she tells me that the timing belt tensioner snapped and the valves got bent and the cas was damaged. She said she'd sell it to me for like 3000 the way it is now or sell it after she fixes it for like 8 or 9 grand. Well my question is how much money I am I looking to spend after a timing belt tensioner has snapped and caused this damage? Should I wait till she fixes it to save me the trouble? It's got around 115,000 miles on it and she is the second owner and had it in 98 with 15,000 miles. The body of the car is in excellent shape, she always babied it and keeps its clean and garaged. Up untill this happened she drove it to school like every other day. I'll attach a pic just for the heck of it.

Ok so the word now is that the teacher doesn't fell right selling me a broken car when there could be more stuff wrong with it she said so I've gotta wait till the end of the month for it to be fixed, but I also found this 98 GSX at a dealership close by. Both of these look great but the main decision for me is if I want to srtaight up trade in the Sonata for the GSX or wait to sell the Sonata and buy the Talon. The good thing from the talon is that she has owned it in 98 with only 15k on the clock and drives it good. I was going to look at the GSX today but they sent it to be detailed so I've gotta wait till Monday. But if you guys can take a look at the GSX and tell me what you think. Is there sumthing up with the back bumper is it just the light? Sorry for the long post but thanks. Link is below.

Hey im kind of new to this forum and i dont have a talon or a eclipse just yet. Im from St.louis and am having horrible luck finding a 2nd gen talon or eclipse. All of them either have over a 150,000 miles and are for 5 grand or are in good shape and are for 10,000. Right now i have been talking to a guy with a 1996 esi talon and he is asking 3,500. it has 129,000 miles and the body is in pretty good condition and he has been the only owner. he said the car was in great shape but i got down under the car and saw that it was leaking some antifreeze(something he didnt mention ). i believe it is coming from the water pump. think i should take it since i'm having such bad luck???

Here is the car

Personally i would hold out for right now.

Don't buy a car that already has a problem.
There is always something better.

Basically depends on what you are looking for.
Turbo or Non-turbo. you can get quite a few good deals if you look around.

yeah he acted suprised when i told him that the car was leaking antifreeze. but then he called me later when i guess he thought i was backing out, and said "oh i tottally forgot, my mechanic told me about that the water pump may have to be replaced a while ago. sorry about that" he seemed a little sketchy. also when i checked the oil level with the dip stick it looked green. it wasnt cause of the light it actually looked green is oil ever green???

turbo is the only way to go. I got my 95gsx for 4400 with 94 k on the clock. You'll regret not getting a turbo in a year. Just be patient and you'll find a good deal. Look on craigslist

i think i would back out then...that dont seem right maybe coolant in the oil? cracked block or head gasket thats what mine was? or was the oil just actually green LOL...there always is a better deal just keep your eyes open!:) viperlp01 is right you will regret not getting a turbo car in a year...

Green in the oil would mean antifreeze in the oil. Most likely cause would be a blown head gasket, there may be other reasons as well. Did it blow a lot of smoke from the exhaust when you started it up? Unless you're good w/ cars and enjoy working on them, i'd let this one slide. It would be worth the additional $1000 or $2000 to get a GOOD working car that has no problems. Keep saving your money and you'll save yourself a lot of hassel.

Never buy a car from someone that says Oh I forgot about that. Because after you buy it lots of things will go wrong, just because the guy is not truthful. There is always something better.

This looks like a real good deal...but only :

"if you are looking for a powerhouse, this is not the car for you,if you just want a good driver that sounds good, then lets deal."
ROFL
99 eclipse with turbo kit priced to sell fast

But it isnt the stock turbo so i dont know???
Look on craigslist man looks like some good deals if u wanna a little work:sneaky:

I wouldn't buy it. For one thing, it leaks water, the second the theres antifreeze mixed in with the oil due to a leak somewhere and lastly, yeah the paint and body is good, it's a 2g talon for cryin' out loud. teehee IMO I'd choose a 97-99 Eclipse body style over the talon any day. Plus, for 3500.00 you can get a better deal then that. Keep on searching and bring a friend who knows their way around the engine bay. (unless you know as well.)

Good luck!

A 97 Talon is sexy.
A 91-94 Talon is sexy.

Thats a lot of sexy.

And 95-96 with some suspension and the right wheels looks pretty damn hawt.

PS - anyone in the area wanna trade a 97 Eclipse stock effects and rear for a 97 Talon :p

personaly i would hold off on buying that car. it looks good from what ive seen ,but it really depends on what you want the car for. i mean if you just want a pretty dsm to get you from A to B then get it. it sosent look that bad. ,but if your looking for speed then i wouldent buy it. i bought my car for 1500... a turbo awd car for 1500 dollarsWTF... im sure you can find a awd dsm for a reasonable price. and trust me its so worth it. dont settle for less if you want a real driving machine go all out. i say stick it out and find yourself a 4G63 powered dsm

It's a rip- off, it's not a turbo and you will regret the purchase later on. Instead of getting an esi for that much just buy a neon. Seriously- hold out till you find a turbo. I paid under $2k for my 95 talon tsi awd.
