The best Pump Gas "Turbo" set up? [Merged 5-7]

Precision .I am still breaking in clutch and for another 100 miles . I have not gone 100% wot yet. Also have not tuned the car its just on base dsmlink chip. So from what you are saying I should be able to get maybe full spool at 3500 on my 3065 when tuned .That would be great.I sure does spool up fast ,I compare it to an electric drill once it starts spooling.
I imagine it will be pretty good fun at 20psi on the street. Find out shortly.

I definitely recommend the FP turbos and 3052 would for sure be my choice on a 2.0.

Oh also Precision I have the passive silencer in my apexi gt catback right now. A bit too loud without it .Neighbors were getting bitchy and setting off too many car alarms.

I have ordered new apexi active silencer should help spool too.The turbo did spool quicker when had the passive silencer out of the apexi.

Nice color orange, but comon a wtf is up with the wing man?

Do you have any vids under load or you getting on it?

LOL, I get it all the time. I bought the car completely stock with a little shy under 100,000 miles for $4600. It was already orange w/body kit and the wing. I would have changed the wing my now but dont feel like going through the hassle of filling the holes up and repainting it. You wouldn't believe how many comments i've got from it. Is that a bike rack? ski rack? what is it?

Over time, the wing as grew in on me. And yes, i'm putting together some more footage right now of my little hotwheel car a.k.a. tonka toy. ;)

Your car would look dead sexy wing less, 2Gs with no wings are so hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on what else you're gonna run....cams? intake? exhaust? The list goes on and on.

FWIW, i just got my 20g on after stepping up from a 14b. Also have meth injection, fmic, 660's eprom 3" exhaust, etc. Stock cams, stock 6 block and intake mani though.

That 20g pulls like a freight train and liquid smooth!:thumb:

I have no numbers, but its very, very quick.

So true. 20g is awesome, proven many many times. Especially on meth OMFG!

Oh it was great right up to the 4th testdrive when the stock HG let go :thumb:

I tuned agressively on the 14b, but that may have been too much with the big huffer in there. Ill start again on somewhat "safer" settings once the Hg is redone.

But Ill say it again, running down the freeway, and get on it. Going quick enough now so I back out. Check the logs, and I was only at 50% throttle! That sort of feeling of acceleration would have taken a lot more throttle on the 14b...like all of it.

Asked by someone about lag...its just not an issue.

Each run I took, I would check to see airflow, revs, and throttle on the safc. I was so use to the 14b, that I continued to shift at the exact same point...6500. There was never anything above that. I finally allowed it wind out to 7100 and it was still pulling, even with the stock cams. That was good to feel.

So, we'll see how bad the damage is, try to evaluate if it was detonation that killed it, or more of just age and increased psi, or a combo of both. and get that damn wideband in thats been sitting in my office for the last few months. Seat of the pants tuning will not cut it any more with this setup.

Ya, you need wideband for sure! IB it was a combo of both old HG and detonation on an aggresive tune. Get some 272's or FP2's and that 20G will haul till there's no tomorrow.

What psi were* you running with the 20g on meth??

Look at the gt35 compressor map. That compressor wheel is very very effecient (fp3065, scm61, are a few of the variatons. I'm running 27 psi on 91 pump @ methenol with around 14-15 deg of advance nearly no knock on when it's 90 degrees outside. I can't wait untill it cools off even another 20 degrees. This is with a full garrett gt35r. Even if you take away the methenol, there is a local guy who ran 12.0X with a 3065 on 91 pump at around 28 psi I believe. With my 60-1 I couldn't run more then 19 psi on pump w/out methenol and have anymore then 14 deg of advance.

Ya, as much as people don't think it spools good, the 3065 is really a great spooling turbo if you want to make big power on a 2.0 without sacrificing daily driving capability.

specfics eh, 880's, maybe set of 272's and a cyclone, aem or dsmlink, 3 inch ex and of course the same old song and dance mods. Nothing too righteous just a nice little street car

Lots of good first hand info in this thread....for a good little street car:
3" exhaust
stay with 1 g manifold for now
stay with stock cams for now
660's
eprom with the good stuff
2g mas
20g|fp green|fp3055
safc
frontmount
tuning supplys

Then:
water injection
cams
sheet metal intake

Theres a lot of stuff to pickup for that. It took me a while to get all the parts, and keep the car maintained.

FP green is great...Two guys locally, one owns a shop around here, and the other has the e-famous 1051 galant. They both ran greens and had lot's of success on 2.0L engines.

I currently have an evo 3 16g and I'm looking for something a little more pump gas friendly at higher boost. I've been looking towards a 50 trim, such as pte5031re, fp Green. I'd prefer BB but I've read some problems with compressor surge though.

current mods are

190 wally,
fic 750
stage 3 keydriver with safc and logger
ssac 2g fmic
3in turbo back exhuast

tranny is stock (A/T).

Do you have a quarter mile time goal or a horsepower goal? 50-trim is a great pump gas turbo, but so is the Evo III. It all depends what you want out of the car.

I can't say enough good things about my 3052 on pump & I too upgraded from the evoIII. The 5031RE would be a great pump choice as well. That was my origional turbo plan but I know how you always want something bigger down the road so I went abit larger. Depending on your goals your turbo selection can very but if your looking at something that just abit more pump gas friendly so you can run abit more boost & would like more top end then the evoIII offers the "50 trim" or 3052 (GT3076) are both great options.

My horsepower goal is a solid 350 at wheels of course. I want to take my motor as far as i can before i have to open her up. at that point i want to build 4g64.

If your plan is to eventually build the motor, You should order something bigger than a 50 trim now. Like said above, look into the FP series turbos...

i think the best all around turbo for a 2.0 street driven is a 30r. if you are worried about the lag, get a fp3052 aka gt3076. if you dont mind a little lag..go with the fp3065 aka gt3082. that turbo will get you your 350 + more when you decide to open up the motor

Keep the turbo you have, it's more than capable of making 350whp, realistically you shouldn't have any problems making 375-400whp with that turbo.

He says he has a e316g ? I thought on average people only make between 300-350whp on that turbo...

Me personally, on a 4g64 I wouldnt go smaller than a 50 trim because that will make a e316g feel like a T25 on a
modded 2g, spool insanely fast and likely wont hold boost past 5.5k if your fully built and cammed out...

A good friend of mine just ran an 11.8@117 in a full weight 1G on a stock motor. He did this on street tires @ 32psi, WITHOUT the use of race gas. He ran pump/meth. He's sure he can squeeze some more out MPH of it with the addition of cams. EVO3 16G is definalty a great lil turbo!

I believe the 11.8 ET. ShapeGSX did this in "full dress". But not the 32 psi. Perhaps 32 psi at 4K, but not at peak HP or anywhere near shifting rpms.

Guys, I don't know many who've gotten a SOLID 350 whp out of the EVOIII. It's not a safe reality.

Water injection covers a multitude of sins though. . .I say just get a water/alky kit or build one and Then you're sure to get that out of your current set up. . . Pump gas comes w/a sacrifice. . . I think it's worth it, considering how much race fuel costs and how much turbos cost. . .

If you're hard pressed to upgrade anything then just upgrade turbine housings. You'll definately be able the flow enough out of the evo3 wheel to support your goals then. . .
