I had created an account a little while back but I had to leave for the military. I'm back now and I want to turn my car into a drift whip. There are a lot of guys in my city with Nissan 240's and think they are hot shit because they can drift a 2 wheel drive car. I want to show them up with my Talon. I was curious to know if that is possible and if so what are some of the first things I should do? I have a 1990 Talon AWD Turbo. Also is it possible to drop an Evo Engine in and is it worth it? I don't know anything about my car and I would like a general description so I can understand all the car talk going on in the forum.

You want to 4 wheel drift or rear wheel drift?

You will need a 2wd trans to run the car as a rwd car.

You basically have a 1st gen evo 4g63 in your car ,And no you cannot drop in a an evo 4-9 engine.

If you want to make to a drift car, swap a ls motor in like the 240 guys do. Then you can burn rubber with just a flick of the throttle. But don't plan on doing much else with the car after that LOL. They just arnt real street able after that, have plenty guys out this way with 240 swapped drifters. They brought one to the drag strip and it ran like 15's LOL couldn't keep it straight and from spinning. But its a pretty fun car up in the mountains :) I think if you want a drifter, it be best to look at another platform bro. Leave the dsm the way it is or sell it to someone or learn to awd drift LOL.

Well... while you were in the military me and your car got to know each other.
Her Favorite color is orange.
She likes long drives down the abandon highway.
And she likes when you tickle her just below the high wing.

Just kidding, but no you can't evo swap it, AWD drifter would be a little easier to build, harder to drift. RWD drifter would be harder to build, easier to drift.

I always wanted to see a rwd converted 1g drift especially since the are similar to an 180sx or an S13.
If I were you I would stick to the AWD till you learn a little more, Find ways to add torque, stroker motor, a evoIII 16g, and break those tires loose.

I know nothing about the LSD and viscous coupler other than the fact it works, well a little more than that, can this be removed in order to allow the rear to slip more?

Had to LOL at this one. There tons of threads on what and what cannot be done. That would be alot of typing if I told you everything. If your in the military most guys there just buy evos LOL..(fact) Anyways Just do all maintenance on your dsm and then build it accordingly to your goals. Your more then welcome to try swap a evo motor in there hope you went into to military for custom fabrication. :p

But what I meant was I want to keep her AWD and figure out how to drift an all AWD car. I'm not going to buy an evo and call it good. I want to build my Talon into the most badass drift car in reno and make all the Nissan 240 guys mouths drop when an AWD Turbo Talon destroys them around the corners haha

hey bud, thanks for your service, and let me tell you with the most respect intended,
That you are not living up to your expectations my friend, physically and mentally you surpass the 99 % but you cant use a search engine to find your answer?
Do your recon first , then once you have direction , it makes sense to ask for opinions/ comparisons . it's like asking a civi to tell you about your weapon:confused:

good luck with your search and hope to hear more about your plans,

:thumb: Well said! Study the subject, create a plan, and then outsource or improvise as needed.

If you want to drift with awd you are going to need one hell of a drivetrain. As previously mentioned shitloads of near instant power will be required as well. Typically with awd people make around 650 for a drift car.

As for the ls1 idea. It is possible to DD. I have a friend who ran his trans am into the ground. So one of our other friends pulled the motor and uses it in his RX-7. Even gutted with a cage and a drive train built for drifting we were able to drive it around in the Florida rain.

As for the 240 ls1. Didnt care for it all that much. The 240 already has horrible front end handling and that heavy of a motor is just too much.
