Can some one tell me if I'm right about my head

First off all I was wasting about a quart of oil a day and was wondering why.
I took off my head and found lots off oil on the pistons and on the ports of the head specially on the intake side.
Also the intake valves were very dark with what i think is burned oil.
Now my question is this, is it the valve seals that are messed up or is it the valve guides?
Thanks in advance for you input.
CAN BURNING OIL LIKE THAT CAUSE MY ENGINE TO BACK FIRE?

Its only at the end of the intake runners where the oil is at?
That couldn't be from the turbo, because all the air piping will be full of oil also. I checked the piping, is doesn't have oil.

Have you checked you PCV valve? It is on the back of your valve cover. Take it off and shake it. It should rattle. Otherwise it's stuck closed (or open, but in your case it sounds closed) and pressurizing your crankcase then your oilpan. It would be force oil to be burned

You screwed yourself by taking the head off before running some test, But it will just b a little more of a challenge. First answer some questions. Was your car bowing smoke and if so when (full throttle, start up, in between shifts). Did your dip stick ever pop out under boost? Does your head gasket have and in perfections in it?

Test:

Flip your head over and check to see if the valve wiggles or has play when it is in its seat. (Put your thumb on the valve and try moving it around left to right) Do that to each valve.

Start at #1 cylinder and put all the valves in their seat (both intake and exhaust) Fill the dome with gas and wait to see if it starts to leak.
If on cylinder leaks check the valves for play and if one has play then thats your problem.

If all seems normal...

Crank all the pistons to the middle of their stroke, so they all are at equal heights in the cylinder. Fill all the cylinders to the top with gas. Some gas will slowly leak out because of ring gap, but if one leaks faster that the other your ring or pistons back.

Post the results!!!

Can someone tell me the job of the valve seal and the valve guide?
Thanks.

The valve guide is simply where the valve stem runs through as the valve is pushed open. The valve seal is what controls the amount of lubrication (oil) is allowed in the guide. Too much oil, and you burn oil. Too little, and you get premature wear of the guides, leading to burning oil, loss of compression. The valve seal either sits on the top of the valve stem or is fixed on the valve guide boss. Usually, most oil consumption is caused by worn valve seals.

My problem is the seals.

I had a friend that is a mechanic came to my house and checked it out.
Now, 91orangeGST, is it okay for me to put gas on the top of the pistons?
Wont it go to the oil pan(where I currently have oil) even if i take it out, will it still be okay.
Just wondering because I'm the paranoid type.
So if gas stays there my rings are okay but if it goes down quickly then that is the reason I'm burning a hell lot of oil.(A QUART A DAY)

Drain the oil before you do the test. While your doing the test leave the drain plug out so if gas does seep through it will drain out. Yes if gas drips out faster in one cylinder than the other it could be one of 3 things.... Badpiston, ring or cylinder wall scraped. Any of these will result in you needing a rebuild. Do the test and post the results... Also time it and tell me how long it took!

Good luck,
Kyle
