Can someone tell me if this is a problem?

ok, i noticed that my #1 cylinder has this chip thing on it. I have another post where i have a chip in my #4 piston, and i just ordered anew set and they got here today

right near the top, its a little piece that sticks out about 1 or 2 mm. Can i just get it ground down at the machine shop? its right above the spot where the piston has the chip in it. Do you think it hit the top?help would be cool

It's not a chip. I am 99.9% sure it is supposed to be there; in two of the DSMs I have owned that I had to remove the head, each had indentions in the pistons right above where the valves would come down. One was a N/T, one was a turbo. They were also in a 3000GT engine that I tore down. Don't worry about it, it's not a problem, the engine will still perform like it is supposed to.

Edit: Here is a pic of the indentions I'm talking about, this is a piston from the 3000GT. However there was a chip on the side of the piston there.

thanks brian, well, i ll just pull the pistons and swap in the new rings, well, if its not a problem, ill just put my new pistons in w/ the new rings. Thanks man, thats what i needed to hear
