this is probably a really dumb question. i have a td05 16g that i've been meaning to install. i just ordered the intercooler piping kit for it. now i'm interested in a td05 20g. can i use that same intercooler piping kit? would it be a better idea to get a fmic since i'm gonna be compressing more air than to keep the stock sidemount?

Depends.....
16g you have to use a "J" pipe to connect to what ever intercooler you are using.
Is the 20g a "bastard" aka sneaky pete - a 16 g with a 20g compressor wheel or is it a standard 20g compressor housing that points down? If the compressor points straight down you don't need the "J" pipe so it is actually easier to connect to the side mount or front mount. you can probably get away with a 90 coupler and a piece of pipe.

20G turbo for Subaru STi WRX 2.5RS

you be the judge. the turbo itself doesn't look like it's in too bad of condition. i only bought the 16g because not only did i want a bigger turbo, i'm hoping to reduce lag, plus i got a hole in my cat and the 16g turbo i bought off of someone (he wrapped his talon around a tree...ouch), has it all the way down to the cat. for $350, it wasn't bad for a turbo with less than 1k miles

Looks to be an ebay model :thumb DOWN:

Is an ebay modle and it will not bolt up to your exhaust manifold due to different flanges.

Put the tools down and back away from the vehicle, if you can give me a solid reason why you want to move on to 20g I will help you, that means do you have the necessary maintenance done? have you done the upgrades needed to ADEQUATELY run the turbo? If not you are just getting a magnum condom for your 2incher.

when they have to stamp the compressor housing with TURBOCHARGER, you can pretty much guarentee that it was made with chopsticks, not wrenches. id pass on the turbo

i'm not an idiot, i don't intend on installing a new turbo until i've down all the correct mods. right now, i'm working on finishing the exhaust (remember the hole in my cat), i need a new cold air intake, i do need a tune up, new fuel injectors, i'm getting belt work done soon (all 3 belts, water pump, pullies, alternator), all that good stuff.

i love my car and have no intentions on messing it up...yet LOL. seriously, i'm just wondering if it will work with the piping. i don't intend on racing the car (it's an automatic, so it's close to pointless to even put a turbo on), but i hate how the car lags when it does up even the slightest hill. plus as the person said who sold me this car, he said "it's great to have the power under your foot but only use it when needed". this car has been my dream car since i was 15 (im 20 now) and i just want it to be faster, but not to the point where i blow a tranny...but just enough to the point where if i'm next to someone at a redline and they wanna go, i can atleast compete.

i don't care about running 10's 12's or anything like that..i just want the car to go fast, stay fast, and last...and look good too LOL

thats all i needed to hear, thats all i wanted to hear. i know a 16g (when i'm done with the maintanence) will be good to my car..but if a deal pops up...why not take it? thanks for your input.

Definitely a knockoff turbo. It wouldn't be hard to make that turbo fit a DSM with the proper turbine housing, but it's still a knockoff turbo. Keep in mind you can buy a NEW knockoff 20G that would bolt right up to your car including the install kit for just over $300.

Trust me- the 16G will feel more than fast once you get it tuned in at a boost level higher than stock. You won't be disappointed.

i;ve read nothing but good things about the 16g...so ill just keep it. while i was told that the stock intercooler can handle the 16g, would it be a better idea to get a front mount?

how about this do all the other mods first and when the side mount becomes a hinderance change it, but unless you are doing back to back pulls you won't need to, but you want to.

what's a good bunch of mods i should do first? right now i'm doing maintenance, but what else are good ideas

good deal. thanks. i bought the car about a month ago in virginia for $1500. at the time i bought it, it needed a door handle and lock, a new top, top motors, a window motor, tires and other things here and there. as far as what i can tell, the car has definitely been modded. i'll post some pics shortly. but this has a custom exhaust from the headers to the muffler, a cold air intake (its for a 3000gt but the previous owner made it fit), and drilled and slotted rotors. there maybe me more but until i can get a wrenchhead who works wit tuners...i'll never really know.

that "wrenchhead" can be you, read lots on this forum, and put some wrench time in and you will be there in no time.

i've been reading this forum alot. not as much as i want to, but alot. this is my first time owning a car of such extreme capabilities and this is my 4th car (97 lincoln town car, 94 concorde, 97 base cavi...didnt touch it). i'm just trying to make my car last and fast.

i've also thrown out the idea of turning it into a targa top...figure it shouldn't be TOO hard since it's already a convertible.

i thought about turnin it into a gsx spyder...but there's so much i wanna do with the car...that i kinda dont care to do so.
