I am about to attempt to rebuild a td04 on my 92 gst a/t. Any tips? i am kind of scared, i cant lie, but vfaq is going to be my best pal. I am doing the rebuild because i am getting excessive oil in my intercooler lines, and a mad boost leak that when i check it with the leak down test pressure only escapes through my dip stick tube... Hope i can solve the problem but some other imput would be nice.

spins free and no shaft play......just no explaination for the boost leak, it just comes out the dipstick tube

Then there is no need to rebuild the turbo and i'm really unsure where you are coming up with the connection between the two.
Did you leave your pcv hooked to intake manifold when testing?

It sounds like you have a lot of blow by if its coming from the dipstick, do a dry compression test, and if it shows very much fluctuation in the readings, follow up with a wet compression test, squirt a little oil into each cylinder and repeat the test, if the readings are higher than the dry test then your piston rings are worn. I dont know if this will help you, but I would check it before I started rebuilding the turbo.

Had the same problem dipstick keep blowing out tried bending the tube a little. Nothing I tried would work come to find out cam was off a tooth fix the timing now everything is good to go
