I guess you ricers hate me then. I have a 97 GSX and a 2002 Camaro Z28. I know the potential of both cars, and both are incredible. I know the Z will go faster for less, but I had the X first, so I'm putting her in the 10s first.
My Camaro is very stock, with only an air lid and a cut out. I've run 12.90s on the stock tires with a 1.90 60 foot. Very impressive for a stock ass car. I never went that fast in my GSX on a stock like setup with the dope. GSX = 3200lbs; Slowmaro = 3450lbs.
I'm in it to try to gain a little respect back from the stoopid F&F movies that tear down the import world, but I can garuntee, that most real racers know which cars are fast. No matter the motor.
Great kill on the V10 BTW. I love to see and underrated car spank ass on an exotic. PLus, it's always good for your self esteem to win.

you honestly think that the majority of viper owners bought that car so they can go ripping down the street and look for races??? I guarantee that over 50% if not higher of Viper owners can really careless if their car runs 12's.

Most of the times when these "older" guys buy one its for social status and nothing more.

I have nothing against beating a Viper or ANY car. But when someone says how they beat a car that cost $70-80K that just sounds so childish.

damn right i expect a viper to beat my ass and when it doesnt, it doesnt say too much for that car. i dont know about you but i expect to get what i pay for and when some little "rice" car beats the crap out of viper. you better bet your ass im gonna think twice about the decision i made. and by the way he took off first i chased him and flew by his ass. and no he didnt slow down. :thumb:
 
Im obviously an Import guy, having owned RX7s and now a L3R powered Talon, but your kidding yourself about whos going to make the most power in the end.

The fastest V8 street car is faster than the fastest Import. The fastest V8 Race car is WAY faster than the fastest Import Race Car. Hell there are V8 street cars that can run faster than Pro-Import guys. And before you come back with some stupid remark telling me to go get a V8, I dont want one. Someone will always be faster no matter what you drive so I choose a car that is different, which is why I like Imports. I like the technology and making power with Forced Induction on little engines.
 
i don't think anyone was argueing the point that import small displacement motors will make more power than a v8 in "the end".

just think about it.....top fuelers make 5 to 7 thousand hp.....

Thanks for the entertainment! Speed is speed! I have a turbo charged lawnmower that is fast, but to compare it to any other form of speed is just pointless. 3 diamonds bi***. Rob K2Pro
 
Threads like this make me wish I had a bumper sticker that said,"Just because you have a V-8 doesn't mean you're fast. Just because I have a 4Banger doesn't mean I'm slow." Well maybe that would fit better on a T shirt.

so w/ that mentality you're saying a $80K Mercedes SL500 ( a sportster, mind you) should also be blistering fast??? :rolleyes:

Actually...Nissan only used V-6's in two cars that were worth a damn. Maxima and the 300ZX We already settled the discussion on the Skyline being an inline 6...and also a turboed 4cly FJ20 in the DR30 Skyline. Now, Nissans most affordable and decently powered sports cars have been all 4cyl's.

Silvia, 180SX(US 240sx coupe/hatchback respectivley) SR20DET 4cyl turbo(1989-1990 KA24E and 1991-1998 KA24DE)
Pulsar GTi-R same engine as Silvia and 180SX. (Japan only model)
Nissan/Datsun 510 Bluebird. Not sure what engine...but one nasty N/A 4cyl...also a good doner for SR20DET swap.

OK...enough on Nissan...used to own one. Got a DSM cause turbo and AWD are amazing.

My thoughts on this whole matter are like this. People have all their different tastes in cars. I grew up listening to my father talking about his 68 Firebird convertible with a swapped in 400RA III from a 69 Firebird, or his 67 Z-28 DZ302 with 11:1 compression, or the 67 Mustang with a 289HO that my mom had. So, I have my love of muscle cars. But love is not loyalty. Imports are more cost effective performance. Less money...similar power. I have torched and have been torched countless times with the 240 that I used to have and the 91 GSX that I currently own...and just got running again for that matter...and the way I see it...I like to race, talk cars and drool over the coolest hot rods or street dream imports on the road. Lets all go to the track to have fun. And these are all opinions that everyone is entitled to. Not flaming anyone, just stating opnions.

Last years USCC kinda put things into perspective. The GTS had the least amount of engine mods (mostly suspension/braking) and won just about every contest except the 1/4 mile (second to the GSX :thumb:).

That and the "chick factor".. come on now.. what would you rather be driving :D

BTW.. I beat a stock EVO 8 at the track Friday. Does that mean it's a POS?
 
no it doesnt mean its a pos, but it also doesnt have 6 more cylinders, and i just took out an evo just last night pretty bad but i have more than a stock evo, whereas the viper is supposed to be an ultimate street car and come with damn near double the hp of an evo 8. do the math any way you look at it a vette,viper,stang,or any other car which is labeled as a sport car and is damn near triple the value of my car(with mods) and cant even beat a talon of all things , shit i'd think twice of what i just purchased:talon:

The book value of a 8yo 1995 TSI is ~4K vs $80K for a brand new Viper.. more like 20x the value.

Come on.. I'm sure someone who has 80K to spend on a car is going shopping for an 8yo $4K car :rolleyes: You also have to figure in that these folks that have $80K prol have another $20K for mods..etc. Not to mention stock they'll eat you in top speed, braking and handling.

I think it great that DSMs can hang with these "supercars" with a nominal amount of mods. Saying that all "supercars" are crap because they have bigger engines and you beat one in a street race is just plain stupid. Remember.. there are quite a few 1.3L Wankels out there that would hand you your butt in a street race (2.0>1.3).. so by your reasoning.. guess our cars are crap too ;)

LOL, any car that can run low 12's to high 11's off the showroom floor and still be reliable and under warranty is bad azz.....wake up man

you're telling me that a 400-450hp DSM is going to be more reliable???
I think not

DSM's are cool as hell but lets think logically, how many times has anyone thats making 400-450hp out of their DSM had to replace any part of their drivetrain? I'd say it was way more than mine since I've never replaced anything on my Camaro except when adding bolt ons

like stated before, people who have exotic cars know they're fast enough as is and guess what, when you're cruisin for chicks who do you think is gonna get all the tail....the exotic car or your 10 billion HP DSM???

actually turbochargers were first used on airplanes, not on cars. yes i agree taht "no replacement for displacemnt except for forced induction" crap is also bs. technically, forced induction IS displacemnt, you're forcing more air into the motor than the stock cylinders were made to take, therefore the displacement of air is increased. you buy a viper to get girls, have class and to look good, not for performance. besides if i had 80k i would get a supra and make it unbeatable. but then again im in the point in my life where class means nothing to me

First I am on this forum to check out the potential of the GSX as a track car. Road course that is. I like what I see so far, but 3200lbs is a little heavy for this car.
Yes I own a Viper. The kill story is lacking a lot of information; speed at launch - 3rd gear in the Talon? Do you know the viper can run 50mph in 6th as well as 1st. What gear was the Viper in? speed at end of race - Do you know the Viper can run 25-150mph in 4th gear? Yes 25-150 whithout shifting. All 488ft/lbs of torque (stock) come on at 3200RPM's, so when the Viper jumped out and then your boost kicked in, did the Viper lift? If you launched at 50mph or less the Viper would struggle for traction in 1st or 2nd. Anyway, I could go on forever, just don't go racing for slips against a Viper. You may win, you may not. By the way a mild turbo Viper makes 750 ponies. A built FI Viper makes 1300hp and can be used as a daily driver. Guess that "no replacement for displacement" thing holds true.
1/4 mile vipers - a mildly modded all motor car runs 10's, FI 9's, and the big dogs are in the 8's at 160mph. Yes all street legal cars. Maybe some time on a Viper forum would educate you.
Now for my modesty. At Mid-Ohio a couple of months ago I got eatin up by a couple of Subies. At the end of the session I congratulated them and we BS'd for a while. You don't find your type of cockiness at a track. Also a guy I work with has a '73 or so Pinto that runs 7's quarters. I still wouldn't trade him cars, but yes I would get smoked by a PINTO!
Mustangs.....hmmm I think John Force drives a mustang now....... nuff said.
I traded a 2001 S2000 for my viper, so I do like hi-tech 4 bangers. I don't like little punks that try to race on the street.
I do appreciate someone calling the Viper "an exotic", it's not, just a Dodge. Hell, my car doesn't have door handles, windows, or A/C! I think just the fact that you felt it necessary to chase down a Viper to race is a compliment.
Anyway, where can I buy a GSX "road" track car?
 
well first ill say that i just wanted to play and it was on a empty country road. yes the viper did take off first i heard the unmistakeable grunt. plain and simple im just saying it was fun to play with someone who didnt just buy the car for the mid life crisis. although it was fun as hell to see the guys face as i went by. CLASSIC!!:thumb:
