okay, I have been having a smoking issue whenever I boost, and today it got REALLY bad. I need to get this sorted out.

I am running a stock T25 turbo and I believe it is leaking out of the past shaft seal. it smokes whenever I accelerate with even like 5psi of boost, and then when I let off of the gas, then shift gears and then start accelerating again, it smokes HORRIBLY out of the exhaust, I have very minimal shaft play.

I think it is the oil O-rings leaking, is there ANY way I can replace just the Orings themselves? I am on an EXTREME budget and cannot afford to buy another turbo or even have a shop rebuild it ( unless it is like 25 bucks or so). I am in dire need to fix this issue. I am scared because I do not know how long the turbo is going to hold up.

Does anybody have any input on this, and please don't reply with "just buy another turbo, because I simply cannot afford it, I'm broke.

To my knowledge cannot buy just the seals for a T25- the parts are sold in a kit.

Don't tear the turbo down to just change the seals and not the bearings...that's retarded. That's like tearing an engine down to replace the rings but re-using the same rod and main bearings.

If you end up buying a kit, make sure it comes with both sets of journal bearings or just the wider bearings- there are two possible journal bearing widths for T25's, the DSM turbos use the wider bearings.

This is the cheapest kit I could find with the parts you need.

If they are just O-rings, I was just going to Match them up at a local parts store and pop them on.

is it a terribly hard job to do?

how long do turbos usually last when they are at this level of leaking oil?

No, they're not o-rings.

You shouldn't be attempting this job if you think a turbine seal is an o-ring.

I guess I assumed it was an Oring because I saw a big one and a little one in a kit for sale. is there a site on how to do this?

and once again, does anyone know how far a turbo will last when it is leaking oil?

The seals are actually miniature piston rings. The o-rings are for the compressor cover to seal in pressurized air.

how imperitive is it that I fix this? If I check the oil level daily and there is not much shaft play, can I get away for now just topping off the oil until I can afford just to buy another Turbocharger?

It's $32, FIX IT.

Hack modders and "how long can I go" guys are the ones that break their car and call it a piece of junk.

So, I ordered the rebuild kit for the turbo off of eBay. And am just driving it staying out of the boost range until the kit arrives, not going over maybe 1-2 psi, in hopes that it will not damage the turbine or compressor. Now, I have been looking up the torque specs on the turbo on have not found any thing in relation to the torque specs on the Garrett T25 turbocharger on my engine. Does anybody know what the torque specs are?
