So I took my car out of the garage Bc the weather is finally nice first time out when I hit boost I notice I little puff of blueish smoke. At first thought maybe it was just from sitting all winter but 3 days later it is still doing it. Which is why I have been trying to stay out of boost. I was think bad seals on the turbo since the turbo is the stock turbo with 104xxx miles on it.

I don't think it is headgasket as both oil and coolant look good and car doesn't overheat.

My cousin(ase certified) told me that the rings may have not set right. I read on here that smoke during in-between shifts is a sign of bad rings. Again the only time I see smoke is when the car is in boost.

I will do a comp test when I can get my hands on a tester.

With the turbo being so old do you think that is the cause of the smoke

If it is the t-2small I want to replace with 14b. If I do I would need new gaskets j pipe and oil supply line. Which I am Planning on getting from RRE.

Thanks!

Sounds like bad seals for sure. If the seals have never been replaced then they are definitely due to be changed. If you're thinking of a 14b in the near future than it would make sense to do it all at once.

I know great excuse! I was told when I bought it that the turbo had normal shaft play, Honestly I never checked myself but just took the sellers word that it was normal. I will check for shaft play now though. Looks like I am in the market for a 14b.

The t25 on the 95 Talon I just sold had the seals go out without any shaft play. It did the same thing the OP's car is doing, smoking in boost. Swapped the turbo out and it didnt smoke at all.

14b is a great choice if you're on a budget. You can find a 14b on here and all the lines to make it work. I just recently did that and it's a noticeable difference and I haven't even raised the boost yet.
