Symptoms of BB turbo damaged

Just wondering what are the symptoms of a bad bb turbo. I did a dyno session last night and managed 600whp at 36 psi on a gt4094r on a blown headgasked. I was filling my coolant to the top on every pass.
I checked the turbo and seems to be fine. When I turn the wheel without pushing it, it will turn freely. However, when I push it in a little and turned, it does not spin as freely. It did this since new so I guess is normal. What you guys think?

Turbo sounds good, I don't believe it moves when you hit the turbo with pressurized oil, it fills that space you are refering to acting as a bearing.

seems to me that everything in the car is working very well except the head gasket. If you still managed 600hp and 36 psi, I'd say your setup has no other problems.

Get a multilayer metal gasket, some ARP studs(if not already) and change that out. Then go back to the dyno and see what you run.

WTF? Stock headstuds would have been screwed a long long time ago.

If you would have read the whole post, I said "if not already", meaning if they were still stock. and the stock head BOLTS would not be "screwed", but the gasket would possibly blow.

hey,
buddy of me is selling twins Full garrett T3 GT3582R..they were used on dynamometr for about 3hrs and get TWO dyno pulls.. they both produced only 600BHP..at like 20PSI(1.28Bar peeak boost)
that small displacement on his 3K VR4 wasn´t able wakeup those 35 R´s.. so they changed to 30R..
Now I wanna buy that one 35R/got it home already..
I was checking plays..and with my WTF I found that both turbos got side to side play..not big at all..and what is really to me both turbos got In/OUT play... could be like 0.5mm.When I told him.. he said "All my 4BB turbos I bought (twin 35R,twin 30R) all these turbos had exactly the same plays as now...same when put on new turbos and same after taking outta engine.."
As for his newer 30R´s they spool to 30PSI at 4200 Rpms.. he got 900Nm torque from 4k...with exactly same plays..side to side-In/out
heard BB turbos got some play.. what ya think???Take in mind turbos went only 3HRS of on 4k rpms on "idle" on dynamometer and then 2dyno pulls... This can´t damage that turbos I think..

Let me know please... need to tell him if I wanna buy him or not..

I guess it could be possible for him to damage the turbo's if he didn't supply the required amount of oil (ie basically no oil as BB center sections can run fine on very low oil pressure) but I would assume a BB center section would hold up to this better vs a std. thrust bearing. I was told some side play & even in/out play is normal for a BB center section (well atleast a Garrett). So unless your seeing huge amounts of play, I would say its probably normal.

Should mention, before I received my BB turbo, I was expecting basically no shaft play at all as thats the info I had read (I know, it may come as a shocker but can't always trust everything you hear on the internet ). When I received the turbo, like I mentioned above, it had both side/side & in/out play. I was curious so went direct to the sorce & found out that yes this is normal & alot of people are surpsied by the amount of play BB turbo's come with (probably expecting no play from something they had read, as well). If the compressor wheel doesn't contact the compressor housing (just like a std. thrust bearing, your probably fine)

Went to buddie to check axial play..IN/OUT.. and I got 0.175mm..and what I heard until 0.2mm its okay.. So Iam clear.. and Radila play..side to side.. don´t care..its not really huge..to me looks like those same 0.18mm..
As for spinning.. if the turboo is in horizontal position(just like its mounted in car.) and I only flow by my mouth..with distance like 10-15cm...flowing only small pressure.. its spin.. its amazing..

Yeah.. that buddie told me all his NEW BB turbos had plays when received them Brand new..
