Ok I've decided to switch to sd with my v3. I don't have the tuning finished on the stock maf yet because it is kind of acting up, so instead of getting another maf I've decided to go ahead and switch to Sd seeing as I've always planned to when I got better at tuning. I found a 3bar gm map on eBay with pigtail for like $30 ordering and I'll be ordering the gm iat also when I find one (trying to avoid ecmtuning only because they aren't shipping anything for a few weeks) and I'll also be making my own cable or hardwiring it.
My main question is does anyone have any advice for the initial switch tuning wise? I'm assuming I shouldn't have to mess with my injectors and I'll just lose my progress with the airflow tuning I've done this far. I've read the ecmtuning wikis on sd install etc, but from my understanding of it I won't be able to use the stock maf for the sd calibration tool because it doesn't use iat.

One last question. I don't see a problem using the intake I have with the stock maf still there just unplugged until I get another intake. Is my assumption correct? I just can't think of a reason it would effect much being unplugged.

So if anyone has any advice, input, or good starting points feel free to post away.
As always thanks for any input, hopefully when I get this thing tuned I'll be able to help someone else in the future.
 
check out ecmtuning and sd plenty of information there and i found good stuff when i searched speed density on google.
 
I've read on ecmtuning as I stated. I'm just looking for any pointers etc from personal experiences.
 
Have you tried street tuned motors, extreme psi, or any of the vendors, if there is no part number who knows what youll get. Or go to ecmtuning and see which ones are compatible with sd, ECMTuning, Inc.

that ebay piece seems really cheap for what your looking to do.
 
It's only $29 through ecmtuning with the pigtail and bung so it's about the same price honestly. I just don't want to wait until the 2nd for it to get shipped out LOL.
 
I just picked up a GM IAT from Autozone for $17... They should have them in stock. As for the pigtail, they were going to have to order it but IIRC it was $19. I ended up fiding one at the junkyard (the pigtail not the sensor).
 
Ok cool I just didn't know what car to look it up for to go through them. The map sensor should be here in a few days so I'll only have to find a iat and I'll be ready. So I'm guessing pretty much any gm iat works as long as its the same clip in. Is that correct? Also anybody know of a common junkyard car that would have the pigtail?

If you keep the stock maf and maf intake pipe on there and start to tune your ve tables, and then switch your intake to just a pipe and filter, you will have to re-tune your ve table. With sd, anything you do that changes airflow will have to be corrected in your ve tables. But since you're just starting out, chances are you'll be making plenty of changes to your ve table so it won't matter that much.

Not just any GM IAT will work... A lot of GMs used a sensor that had no threads on the body because it was designed to push into a rubber intake hose. Here are some PNs for one that will work.

I have been running SD for awhile now and one thing I don't like to much is how much time I spend tuning. Haha. Any change of weather will make your AFRest and Afr's not match. Yeah it is a quick fix with one of the excel tables but just a pain.

Yes there are base maps that you can put in and start with. First, make sure Link has the correct settings for your vehicle, like engine size, fuel system info, etc. Then you can use one of the following. The file "Evo8 stock" is a soft fuel and timing map, the "Evo8 mod1" is a little more aggressive but where most people start, and the "Ralliart" maps are very aggressive. There are also stock 1g and 2g maps available.

Yea I've been tuning on the mod 1 tables. I've decided to run the maf with the map hooked up and use the sdadjust or whatever it is.
 
Ok switched finally. decided not to use the maf and start over with all together. So I changed Maf type to SD and Started. Got the idle dialed in with combinedft and airflowperrev, then did a cruise for about 30 mins and used the sdadjust tool for cftrim. Anyone care to look at the changes it made and see what you think, only problem is I am not running an IAT yet because it is not installed yet due to not receiving it till today. I know it needs smoothing etc just wanted to get some input.

Im attaching a log thats just a couple seconds long that just shows the changes I made with the tool. Once again I havent smoothed anything yet.
