2G Swapping a 97 GST motor into my 96 GSX

I have searched the old threads here and didnt find alot of info.

I have a 1996 eclipse gsx and I just want a motor to drop in a drive a little bit until I get my 6 bolt built. Would a 7 bolt motor from a 1997 gs-t drop right in? I need to know what all to get to make it work in my 96 gsx. Also, my gsx is a 5 speed. I already have a trans.

also, is the wiring harness the same?

Nope, not the same. Cam angle sensor is in a completely different location on the 96.

so this motor would be of no use to me? I have to stick with a 95-96 gst or gsx to work with my car?

...or do some wiring. Everything else is the same except the cam angle sensor and maybe some vacuum lines.

the wiring harness I have is already hacked up because the previous guy was doing a 6 bolt swap. I have like 4 wires that look like they're for the cam sensor. I can just go from there right? just the cam sensor is the only thing I'll run into problems with if I get this engine?

You won't know the answer to that question until you do the swap. Like stated above, "Everything else is the same except the cam angle sensor and maybe some vacuum lines".
