I have an opportunity to buy a built motor out of a 1990 TSI. I searched and found a few of the differences listed, but I would need to know how much work is going to be involved, and what may need to be changed out. The only thing I could really think of would be an ECU maybe out of the 90, but other than that I'm drawing blank.

The engine has all brand new rods/pistons, MHI big 16g, evo III manifold, 550CC injectors, fuel pump, built head, all arp studs, etc..

I hope I can get this started somewhat. I know that the 1990 oil filter housings are different, and you probably will want to get an after market oil cooler to mount behind the bumper cover on the drivers side. Also obviousely if the motor is coming out of a FWD, you will need an AWD flywheel because you have a GSX. There might be other differences, but hopefully this can get you started.

Sorry, the Talon is AWD that it's coming out of. I thought they were TSI's, just not familiar with the Talons.

Im pretty sure the ECU is the only thing you would need to change. You might wanna check into the tranny being different too, im pretty sure they changed between 90 and 91.

I wonder if I could just use the tranny that I have in my car right now. My GSX is running just fine, and I don't necessarilly need the other motor, but to go from 200 to 300+ horse would be pretty nice. I can't believe they made the 90's like that, but 91 to 94 are all the same engine-wise....

That's not even true, the 92.5-94's are 1G 7-bolts and the 90-92.5 are 6-bolt, so the 90-94's have many differences from start to end! :)

Yea, you will be ok. It will bolt right up,all 6 bolt trannys will bolt up to a 6 bolt block, the only thing that will be different is the linkage, which is of course not a big deal at all.
